I bought this drive to go into my new system. At first it would burn multiple coasters or disks that would skip when I tried to burn music to CD-RWs. After upgrading the firmware it seems to be working ok. It may have been a problem with incompatible media. Other than that the drive does what its supposed to although it is seriously loud when spun up. |

This unit is a great value (when on sale) and does the job nicely. Lightscribe is a nice option but I haven't tested it yet. Installed Win7 quickly so the read speeds are decent as well. |

This burner is great for burning and watching dvds as well as creating lightscribe labels; a huge plus. The black covers fits perfectly with any modern case and it's relatively inexpensive as well, especially on sale. |

Not really much to say except that it works like it says. Have not tried the lightscribe function since the discs are expensive but the lightscribe software driver recognizes it so should be ok. 2x louder than every single fan in my case at full speed put together. |

Cons:Not really a weakness but it would be cool if you could choose a color for the activity led and if they started making the metal case black to match all the new gaming cases out there.

Lightscribe quality is really good. it consistently give a score of 90% or more on Nero 9 scandisk tool. Even with no name brand of mediaThe drive operate very silently. It can be used with a scandisk tool. It had replaced my LG drive just to be able to scan my media quality with Nero tool.This is the third Samsung DVD-RW that I bought so far and will definitively buy this brand again on my next DVD-RW purchase. |

Bought it on sale, I've always stuck with Pioneer before.There's always the possibility that it's just the unit I received, but this Samsung seems like the noisiest DVD drive I've had this century. Still, it's not too, too bad. IIRC there were some tweaks to limit the drive's top rotation speed, I might try those. Other then that it works just fine. |

I needed a SATA DVD drive and have only had PATA ones up to this point. This one was on sale, so I bought it. LightScribe works fine and no issues burning or reading any discs so far. With that said, I am not tough on this type of equipment typically. I still have a DVD burner from 8 years ago (Pioneer) that works fine. It's just slow in comparison. This is a perfectly fine drive. |
Not much to say other than the pros and cons above. The firmware upgrade kinda sucked because I had to snoop around a bit to find it before it'd burn a label. Aside from that its ran very well and done a great job.
