AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition 3.1GHz Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Processor
Cons:Included heatsink/fan is not adequate.
Pros:Unlockable if you have the right stepping, but if not, it's still an insane overclocker at 2 cores. |

AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition 3.1GHz Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Processor
Cons:none
Pros:Dirt cheap, great clock speed, quad core if you're lucky, runs cool Comment:
Bought it a while ago, but only recently found out about the 3rd and 4th core unlocking. Tried it and it's like night and day, just amazing. I was so excited to see 4 cores displayed in cpuz. I'll recommend this cpu to anyone looking for some real processor beef. |

AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition 3.1GHz Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Processor
Cons:none
Pros:FastEfficientCheap Comment:
Its a nice low price dual core, probably best one at stock speeds out there for under 200. I got it for a friend and never got the chance to OC it so i can't say anything how good it OC. |

AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition 3.1GHz Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Processor
Cons:None so far.
Pros:Price, Possibility to get a quad core for less than 120$ CDN (success for me), runs cooler with four cores enabled than an Intel e7200 clocked at the same speed (3.1Ghz) and that is equipped with a much bigger cooler (and I'm not even considering the north bridge temperature on the P45 platform). Comment:
For the first time in a long time, I bought a CPU without being really eager to overclock it. Instead, I was looking to get a very cheap quad-core and I got it. Mine came in on June 26 2009 and is from the 0922APMW batch which is known to be a "good" batch for core unlocking. I paid even less for this CPU than I did for the Intel e7200 that I bought a few months back out of curiosity. If you want to venture in the core-unlocking business, get this CPU instead of the 720. Sure it's one less active core but it's already clocked higher and, from what I've read on multiple forums, the chances to unlock to four cores are higher with the 550. Be aware, though, that you have to pair it with a motherboard that's willing to do the job. Gigabyte makes boards that make it a child's play to unlock a CPU (I got the MA790XT-UD4P along mine). I wouldn't count on Asus to do the same, though. |

AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition 3.1GHz Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Processor
Cons:none
Pros:Overclocks to 3.6 Ghz at stock voltage and runs at 38 C under load with a cheap aftermarket heatpipe cooler. (Xigmatek HDT-S1283) Comment:
Bought one of the first available a few days after they came out and have been very happy with my purchase. Replaced a X2 4200+ and it runs everything substantially faster and is much cooler under load. |
0921APBW stepping unlocks beautifully on a Gigabyte GA-M785GM-US2H motherboard (Bios F2, EC Firmware set to Hybrid, ACC set to Auto). All four cores functional and stable overclocked to 200 x 19 (3.8 GHz) at 1.45 V. This review was modfied by poster @ 08-17-09 12:09 PM
