AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition 3.0GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:
AM2+Not really a weakness, but AM3 versions are out.
Pros: Fast, good price when pricematched Comment:
While doing some upgrades recently, I found myself with a spare AM2+ motherboard. I was going to order a lower end Athlon II CPU, but found this for a good price at another vendor. NCIX pricematched, and I purchased this. The board used to run an Athlon II X4 3GHz, which is almost identical with the exception of the L3 cache. I can't say I notice any difference, but don't play lots of games, and haven't run benchmarks. The Windows Experience index stayed at 7.3. |

AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition 3.0GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:
Gets pretty hot, though that is with a simple stock cooler.
Pros: Very fast, can handle a lot of things thrown at it at once Comment:
A great processor for a good price. the performance difference from my old 2.0ghz dual core is incredible. coupled with a mid-high end GFX card, it will eat up almost anything. a after-market cooler is strongly recommended though, at 125w it can run pretty hot. |
