AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 140W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:Still doesn't reach i7 920 levels and can be quite power hungry.

Pros:Performance on the cheap
Comment:
I've always liked AMD and this card is quite a good piece of kit considering its price range. Although it doesn't reach core i7 levels it is still a very capable card and should definitely be considered by budget builders. It is however a little power hungry.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 140W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:None so far.

Pros:Overclock abilities, power, temperature, stability.
Comment:
The AMD Phenom II 965 Black Edition is a very good processor as far as I can tell. It runs very cool at all times, even if you are overclocking it. As a performance processor, this processor should not ever go about 40 degrees celcius, however with the use of a 3rd party cooling solution you are very able to overclock this processor to 3.8GHz. With the stock processor that NCIX provides (well, AMD provides), you can overclock this processor to 3.8GHz.This processor can give you the performance you need/want in nearly any task. Compared to an i5, I really can't see too much of a different. Although the i5 provides better performance in some areas, in my opinion this processor wins overall in gaming:1: It's much cheaper.2: Runs much cooler.3: profitIf you're going to get any processor and you don't feel like breaking the bank, get this processor. You'll never regret your decision.Hope this review helps anyone out.Scott Stevens

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 140W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:Uses a lot of electricityCan easily run hot without enough cooling

Pros:High performanceOverclockable with the right cooling
Comment:
AMD's highest performance chip at the time I got it, it does everything I need at a very affordable price, especially considering total platform cost. A lot of naysayers prefer the intel i7 but that one costs a lot more to build a system with.Overall I am very satisfied. I will buy another one, well maybe the 125W version for extra overclockability. :)

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 140W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:none

Pros:Overclockable
Comment:
You can't lose with AMD. Going from a barton 2500 to this is awesome. AMD quality is underrated. I had the 2500 outrunning the 3200 on stock cooler and it still lives. Everyone advises to get aftermarket cooling for oc'ing so I won't go against that, but i've tortured amd processors to see how long they can run above reccommended temps...5 years later the test continues.

Cons:none so far

Pros:Very fast and stable
Comment:
Very good processor, only problem I had is my bios wouldn't recognize it, had to update  my bios and is now running fine and over clocked at 3.8ghz at 31'C. My last processor was a dual core at 2.6ghz and this is a major upgrade.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 140W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:None

Pros:Fast, multi core, cheap
Comment:
Bought this upgrading from an AMD x2 - Boy was it faster. For the price, I doubt you'll find a card that functions just as well as this one. I know intel is better - but I'm an AMD fanboy, and so far price / quality ratio, they have never let us down. This is a very good, very fast CPU.

**UPDATE**OC'ed to 3.91 GHz on stock cooling!!! THIS CHIP IS AMAZING!!!!http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/4098/40853043.jpgVery nice upgrade. What a deal especially at 209.99 A week ago I just paid 288+ tax but totally worth it. I oc'ed it to 3.74GHz stable with stock cooling! 100% stable. For the price comparable to I7 and cheaper! AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 140W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:Requires some good cooling for ultimate clock speeds

Pros:Price to Performance ratio
Comment:
I bought this along with the Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P and 2 x 2GB (2 sets for a total of 8GB) Mushkin 996601 from NCIX and have been playing with settings for a while. Running a basic Swiftech CPU cooling loop with fans running nearly silently in an Antec Sonata II case (using 850watt Supply) I can only hold 3.74GHz (17 x 220) stable for an extended Prime run. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and that coupled with the fact that 8GB of RAM is harder to 'make' stable...well...I still feel that AMD should have had a little more headroom on the overclock here. Intel has been pulling away for some time now, however, price is still paramount to me and I am an AMD fan.I managed to get into Windows and fool around for as long as I wanted at 4GHz but the system would fail any Prime attempt after 5 to 10 minutes. From what I have read 3.6 to 3.8 is about the average overclock with the hardware described in this review. Maybe an MSI or Asus board would yield different (better?) results...who knows. For now I am satisfied with this experiment and it is a step up from my previous X4 940 DDR2 system. It misses 5 stars because of speed not value.

Pros:OverclockingTemperatureStock fan is very decent.Speed.
Comment:
Just replaced a dual core 3.2ghz AMD Athlon 5 series black edition AM3 Processor with this 965 Phenom II Quad, Unbelievable, intel is right on time to get ahead because AMD is owning the price, and performance market for Quad core, and Dual core processors. The stock clock is 3.4ghz and runs at about 25-30C with the stock cooling, we overclocked her to 3.6 and ran at only 2-4 Degrees hotter. A cheap CPU Cooling attachment will run this at 4Ghz if not higher, in no time.Very stable. This Customer review was for a friend.-Highly recommend this over any core i7.
