I bought the drive in late October 2011, it has worked like a champ when I needed to use it once or twice a month.This morning, it wouldn't open on its own. It can't read anything either if you activate it manually. The light turns on and Windows says an error has occurred when I try to eject it from the OS.Basically, it died in a year and a half with very little use.Would not buy again. |

Includes a copy of Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Essentials. Most drives don't seem to bother including software anymore, so the thought counts. The drive I received is easily the noisiest component in the PC when it is running. It has a fair repertoire of noises, too: a humming sound during reads, a sort of combination buzz/whine when writing and a few clunky mechanical sounds randomly. It is supposed to have noise reduction technology, but mine certainly isn't working well. Maybe the one I got is just a little wonky, but it creates discs okay (so far), and and the price point these things are nowadays it really isn't worth pursueing. I probably wouldn't buy another, though. |

There's not much to say about optical drives anymore. A lot of people have no need for them since you can download almost everything you need. I rarely read or write discs but I'm not able to give them up entirely. A few years ago I would have read more reviews before purchasing to make sure I got the best drive for my money. It hardly matters anymore. Find one that's one sale and it's over. |

I build many pc with this drive are very excellent, never rma always good quality from asus. Many time take it at 19,99$ from special. Very quiet, silent and really do the job like a pro !
