Superior specs and (so far) has been a quite sturdy board. Unlocked two cores (Phenom II x2 555) effectively and with extreme ease. Lots of tweaking options/utilities available. Does what's its built to do. None. As with any board, make positive the metal plate that frames the ports on the rear of the board, have its prongs clear of each port. A prong that is touching a get in touch with within a port can (and will) cause a POST error from shorting out.

Anything but the con No matter what I do the SATA III 6GB ports will see nothing as 6GB. Installed a new SSD with it that is 6GB and it will only run at 3GB. I have loaded each and every driver and nonetheless have the concern. Had a controller board that will run 6GB so I just used that. ASUS tech support is an absolute joke. Had no idea what I was talking about with the different speeds obtainable with SATA. Possibly won't buy yet another ASUS board.

Truly like this board. It has excellent capabilities, has great overclocking tools and at a great cost. I had a no problem installing it and it worked initially attempt. The drivers installed with no issue and the computer software tools are good for monitoring and tweaking. Not significantly. The I/O insert is a little tricky to get to perform, but not poor. Had to download the network driver on a different laptop or computer so I could get on the web. Windows 7 didn't have the driver but could have gotten it from the CD so not seriously a difficulty. All in all, I'm quite pleased with this. The USB and SATA 6 give me good upgrade possibilities although I don't need to have them correct now. Put an AMD Athlon II X2 255 which was quite simple to OC to 3.five Ghz. Put 4 GB of G-skill DDR3 RAM and upgraded my old Athlon 64 to a good new method for a couple hundred.

USB3, SATA 6Gb/s, ATX sized, three PCI slots, pretty colors, it's an ASUS board. Onboard LAN is flaky. Deduct one egg for that.I usually let Windows find drivers for my components. DO NOT do that with this board. I kept acquiring bsod's in minutes with a ndis.sys error returned. After I uninstalled the drivers that Windows 7 x64 installed, I installed the most up-to-date NIC drivers from ASUS's site. That worked fine and all, until out of the blue in the course of a game of Plants Vs. Zombies, I get a BSOD, this time with rt64win7.sys. Search engine outcomes mentioned it was associated to the Realtek NIC driver once again. I've updated the BIOS and I'll see if that does anything. If not, I will have to install a dedicated PCI NIC.Motherboard is not wide sufficient. Deduct 1 egg for that. This is supposed to be an ATX motherboard. I have this board in a Antec 900 case. It does not reach the third set of risers. If you install your CPU and RAM prior to inserting this into your case, you could be okay, but it just feels like poor style to me. I have not had this much trouble with an onboard NIC/LAN ever. I've been employing ASUS motherboards for the past 11 years (A7V333, A7V600, M2R32-MVP, M4A78-EM) and not had this significantly of a difficulty.

I don't know why so numerous people today appear to have issues with this board. I know how to build computers but not a pro and I installed it and employed Gskill memory thats not on the list , set up a few things in the bios and has been working excellent ever due to the fact. Like everybody else states the panel that goes on the case isn't the greatest. Also the no support men and women have been saying close to the power connector seriously isn't a large deal just be cautious plugging it in.

Nothing that any other comparatively priced motherboard wouldn't be able to do. I have had the very same dilemma with my motherboard: a USB device connected to the front USB headers with crash the program. This is not at all an uncommon problem. And ASUS has performed nothing to address it, apart from advise people today with their useless tech support to "update the bios". There has not been 1 documented case of this assistance getting resolved the problem and Asus has as of but completed absolutely nothing to either follow-up or address this problem. Will never get ASUS once again.

I'm running this board with an Athlon II X4 640 with 8GB RAM with Ubuntu 10.10 64bit.This method is running exceptionally well. I've by no means had fantastic achievement with Linux and onboard audio and this board was no exception. Sound did function, but I sometimes noticed some latency in sound events (such as sound Ubuntu plays when it brings up the graphical login screen) and a couple of odd clicks and pops here and there. As I said, I was expecting this so it didn't bother me. I disabled the audio function in the BIOS and installed my trusty ancient SoundBlaster. Difficulty solved. I knew this board was lacking a parallel port prior to I purchased it as do most modern boards. I refuse to give up my trustworthy HP laser printer, so I just purchased a PCI parallel port card.

My greatest problem was trying to get the CPU heatsink locked in, which ended up just fine. No glaring difficulties observed.

Solid board, well made. Plenty of room for the CPU heatsink and fan. SATA III, USB three., just about just about every port you could want is built proper in. Cool blue color scheme, too. No little fans on the chipsets that add method noise and start off to rattle more than time. As I stated in the "Pros", there aren't any fans on the chipset heatsinks. I found that odd at initial, but it DOES keep the noise down, and the system fans seem to preserve the temps low enough anyway. Depending on your case setup, the RAM slots may possibly be quite close to the challenging drive cage, but they nonetheless shouldn't hit, even with heat spreaders on the RAM. Antec full tower case; AMD Phenom II X4 965 CPU; 4GB GSkill RAM; 1 TB WD Black edition difficult disk (x2); ATI Radeon 6850 1GB video; Corsair Enthusiast Series 650W PSU; Windows 7.

I don't know why others have mentioned a need to have to manually set voltages inside BIOS, but you DO have to set the RAM from 1333 to 1600 (if you have that speed of RAM) inside BIOS. Straightforward to do i did it fine with no expertise in BIOS.It was literally plug and play for my 1st construct. Plugged it all in, put in windows 7, and it does the function.Comes with some pretty cool software program to monitor temps of the system and the CPU as properly as activity in every core and what speed it is presently clocked at.1 SWITCH unlocked the other cores in my AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb three.4GHz. little tiny switch correct on the MoBo it's great. The other capabilities such as MemOK seem beneficial but it was a non problem mine in no way required it. Maybe PSU problem, but it was a bit difficult to reach the CPU power plug with my cord without laying it ontop of my CPU fan. Some of the software program on the disk is annoying so i would reccommend manually installing individual programs. The zero to internet particularly did not appeal to me and slowed overall boot time with the menu opening. i could see it becoming helpful in some scenarios. Make positive you plug in the CPU plug as nicely or it wont boot up (obviously). so there are two different places you have to plug in from the PSU. (maybe this is regular although)I think this is a fantastic MoBo for veterans and newbs alike. All the characteristics are effortless and enable for total control more than the method.

Great OC board, the bios choices are amazing.Smart slot layout, my 5770 only covers one pci slot.Really simple to function with the volatage, and so on. The gui asus has is good. I don't like express gate though and promptly uninstalled it.Handles my 1090t like a champ no problems whatsoever yet.Stays fairly cool.Overall I am really satisfied with the purchase, it offers usb3 and esata at a good price, and it supports 6gb/s sata. AMD Based board that is blue (why?) clashes with my red amd 5770 and ram.Only 1 four pin fan connector. It will flex when you are attempting to function the energy cables on, my 24 pin was seriously difficult to get clipped in.The second pci express slot is incredibly low and it will rub up my psu if you are utilizing a case comparable to mine (antec 300)Some of the plug-in placing is a bit odd, makes cable management a bit tough.Would like copper on NB and SB chips, the passive heatsinks do generate some heat. Make certain you check that your ram kind is supported.Specs:Antec 300 chassisAsus m4a87td evoRocketfish 500w modular1TB WD Black @ sata 6gb/s AMD 1090t x6 @ three.2ghz4x 2gb 1600 g.skill ripjaws f3-12800cl9d-4gbrlXFX Ati 5770

Wonderful Board, does everything it says it does. Every thing works fine. The second PCIE slot is NOT a 16x, and of course theres the dilemma with most PCIEX16 cards covering a PCI slot. So count your slots and how several expansion ports you will need. Wonderful value.

fast makes me pleased. outstanding board when you come across the correct drivers. frustrating / incorrect JMicron driver posted on the asus support website. If you are havnig Sound Problems or method slowdown - If you are having any sound problems (crackling, and so on) or program slowdown when transferring data from disk to disk **uninstall the jmicron controller driver** that came on the disk or that you downloaded from the asus support web site. The package asus has on their support disks and internet site for this board (Win 7 64) for JMicron include the whole SATA controller package. If you go to JMicron's web page you can locate just the Esata controller driver which will clear up any sound crackling issues (sounds crazy correct?) The most recent AMD southbridge drivers must be controlling Sata and the drivers on the disk/website are fine to install. If you weAlso, it is a good idea to get the most current driver for the sound controller "VT1818 High Definition Audio 8-Channel CODEC" from the VIA website.I hope this assists, I went via a lot of trial and error on this board and have located it to be a big time winner when I located the correct drivers

Connectors are mostly in logical locations. USB 3. is nice. Onboard memory test is a clever feature, in all probability beneficial in the event of chip creep. In fact smaller than my older board which was good to totally free up space adjacent to my drives. Perhaps just me, but I had to hunt for the IDE connector. Was sideways near drives. Posted on 1st attempt and ran like a charm due to the fact. Utilizing for HTPC, not overclocking it.

three weeks and running wonderful, unlocked my phenom 2 to a very good stable quad core. I overclocked just using the cpu multiplier, at 19x Ɠ,800) I began to finally see some heat enhance, under stress test began obtaining 44c. I am making use of an aftermarket heat and fan. I could in all probability get more out of it but it is not worth the risk of frying the cpu. None. I am incredibly happy with this board and plan on ordering yet another 1.
