ASUS S46CM-DH51 Intel Core i5 3317U 6GB 1TB GeForce GT635M 14.1IN DVDRW BT Windows 8 Notebook
Cons:•Combo microphone / headphone jack•Lid attracts fingerprints and must be cleaned often•Gap between screen and notebook•Audio outputs from the bottom of the notebook giving a muffled feel•CD/DVD drive feels awkward when holding the notebook from the right side, especially with one hand•WASD palm rest area gets warm when gaming, otherwise cool for browsing and text editing•Left control key is not full and could have been extended by removing the unnecessary "Document" key beside the right Alt key
Pros:•Excellent hardware specifications for the price•Ability to rest on a non-optimal surface (bed, couch) and stream video without worrying about overheating•Thin and not heavy for a 15.6" notebook•Sturdy and rigid design - ability to lift up from screen and not worry about hinges breaking•VGA output for older displays/projectors, HDMI for newer displays•Minimalistic keyboard area design with three features (power button, keyboard, trackpad)•Screen viewing angle is more than satisfactory for the price range•Full left shift key Comment:
I upgraded to this notebook from a Compaq Presario CQ56 ($300) and have noticed a considerable difference in both performance and portability. The aesthetic of the notebook (once stickers removed) is extremely nice and feels very solid. The brushed aluminum gives the notebook a very high end feel. However, the brushed aluminum on the lid of the notebook, while looking nice, attracts finger prints more than free stuff attracts people. The colour scheme of the notebook (black and silver) is great. Black keys stand out nicely from the silver aluminum unibody design and you can distinguish them in dark environments given the notebook's screen at least being on. Transitioning from a non-chiclet keyboard I've noticed that I need to apply additional force to ensure the keystrokes register. The keyboard quality is great. The spaces between the chiclet keys make cleaning easy. When heavily typing on the keyboard vibrations can be felt underneath. This is contrasting an ASUS Zenbook where minimal vibrations can be felt. Addressing hardware specifications, for the price this laptop is excellent. The processor is extremely fast, the graphics card plays any mid-range game at reasonable settings with a very playable frame-rate. League of Legends runs on high, Source games run on high to very high. The 1TB hard drive has lots of space for games and programs. The screen resolution of the laptop (1366x768) is optimal for the price range. This laptop is excellent, and I highly recommend this laptop for this price range. It's thin, fast and looks nice. I'm starting to prefer this laptop over my desktop (i5, 8GB RAM, 7970) because of it's portability and performance. I could definitely use this laptop as my main system. |
I paid close attention to this item long time. I bought this Ultrabook has been 9 days, it given me so much surprise! light weight, and metallic C-side. Geforce 635m has the enough performance I need. only [need for speed]series sometimes. Highly recommended.
