ASUS S56CM-DH51 Intel Core i5 3317U 6GB 1TB GeForce GT635M 15.6in DVDRW BT Windows 8 Notebook
Cons:Too many ASUS apps...some of which I can't figure out what they do.
Pros:Rigid. Excellent touch pad. Boots REALLY fast (with Windows 8). Huge hard drive which is helped immensely by the SSD cache. |

ASUS S56CM-DH51 Intel Core i5 3317U 6GB 1TB GeForce GT635M 15.6in DVDRW BT Windows 8 Notebook
Cons:no backlit keyboard, does not come out of sleep when not plugged in, heavier than most laptops, crappy touch pad (really hard to use)- definatly need a separate mouse, optical drive jumps if disc is leaning in any way.
Pros:faster than g75vw, 24gb ssd, 2 gb video card, fast!, full English keyboard, over sized keys, thin, keeps cool, always feels cool to the touch, impressive and fairly vibrant 720p screen(better than most)regular sized arrow keys, sound is pheonominal! SOLID! =) Comment:
this by far one of the best laptops I have ever seen and owned in the last 4 years, I have attempted to own 6 others including the famous asus g75vw, but all 6 failed within the first month. plus the g75vw is as slow as molasses , but this one has far more solid build quality than all of these 6 combined.the only problem I might have with this on is that it will not come outta sleep when its not plugged in so I might have to get that checked out =(. but it seems super fast, and the screen is ammazing for a 720p screen.I hate that now there's a 599.99 version with an amd a10 processor with a backlit keyboard, but mines livable =)I got mine for 700 bucks - good price eh? ;] |

ASUS S56CM-DH51 Intel Core i5 3317U 6GB 1TB GeForce GT635M 15.6in DVDRW BT Windows 8 Notebook
Cons:-Build quality is not the best-GPU does not have the expected 144 cores, but 96 instead-Screen resolution is low (1366*768) and backlighting quality not the best
Pros:-fast with windows 7 and 9-can give up to 4 hours of battery life, expect 2-3 hours with normal use and even less with games-GPU can safely play Dishonoured, so modern games are playable Comment:
Picked this up on a Christmas sale, and there's a lot to say about it:-It comes with Windows 8 and it is possible to wipe the hard drive and install 7 on it instead. All partitions on the HDD must be removed and reformatted to NTFS, and the BIOS needs Secure Boot disabled and CSM enabled.-The 1TB hard drive is 5400RPM and not the fastest, but the 24GB SSD helps keep speeds up.-The processor is not a "mobile" version, but rather an "ultra-low voltage" version. It's certainly not close to a desktop CPU, but still quite powerful-The 6GB RAM is terrific for multitasking, I haven't slowed it down yet-I haven't tried the Bluetooth yet but it's there if/when it's needed-2 year warranty from ASUS is fantastic-IF YOU update YOUR BIOS, BE CAREFUL! The BIOS is a new design that's annoying if you're not using Windows 8, since the BIOS holds software keys now |

ASUS S56CM-DH51 Intel Core i5 3317U 6GB 1TB GeForce GT635M 15.6in DVDRW BT Windows 8 Notebook
Cons:low resolution screen, short battery, some minor flaw(for my case, the lid has light leak on the side edge.
Pros:thin, light, beautiful design, 1Tb HDD, and geforce GT635M Comment:
tried to install win7 back but failed. can not figure out how the SSD and HDD works, as SSD been hide and occupied by recover files. Overall this is a good laptop, worth of its price.I would like to purchase another one as a gift. |
I always recommend that people get a Win8 laptop with a touch screen to take advantage of the great touch UI... and then I go buy one without it. Granted, I spend the vast majority of my time on the desktop and this is a work computer so I opted for the extra horsepower and the big screen. Having said that, this unit, so far, is fast and with the option to run the dedicated graphics. I have yet to test the battery life...and will post an update if it is either too short or crazy long. The fit and finish is near perfect. The VGA port makes this perfect for the current business world. The DVD drive is also a nice bonus. The LCD is the standard lower resolution but is still crisp and bright. Aluminum chassis... feels great. The touchpad has all the options that make working in the Win8 interface very nice. Many of them also work on the desktop which prompts me to try my best to start using it more often. I'm gonna give it 5 stars and I highly recommend it....and, again, if something changes I'll come back an update this. Audio is OK... but not as good as it could be.
