Good external dvd/cd drive. The USB cable actually splits into 2 USB ports. It still runs on 1 port plugged in. After some testing, there's a definite performance hit with only 1 plugged in. Even though the PC has USB 3.0 and is capable of supplying the power with just 1 cable, the device itself is USB 2.0 so the PC only supplies 2.0 level of power. It does NOT come with a stand as shown in the picture. |

What's included in the box is the recorder (about the size of a portable CD player), 20 inch long usb cable with dual connectors, CD with burning software.This writer takes approximately 10 mins to record single layer DVD-R, around 30 mins to fully blank DVD-RW. It is very quiet in operation and can boot from bootable CDs.The dual usb connectors are supposedly meant to power up the device but I have successfully recorded discs on just a single usb port. It works great on a linux system with Xfburn program.This particular model does not have a vertical stand. The picture is a lie. |
Asus has never disappointed me and this drive is no surprise; it's classic Asus quality. It has a classy shiny diamond plate finish to it and comes with burning software (CyberLink Power 2Go). I haven't yet ventured into burning a disc, but will within the next few days as required. The only initial improvement I would have liked from this product is a longer USB cable. I would have liked to have placed this drive on my desk for easier access but it will not reach. It is sitting currently on the top of my PC tower and will be fine there, but a longer cable would give the user a little more freedom of use. For the record it did not come with the stand in the display picture, but it does indicate on the packaging the stand is "optional". This is a great drive for someone looking for a portable drive for an Ultrabook laptop or in my case replacing an PATA/EIDE drive that I can no longer find anywhere for this older desktop. I would recommend this product without hesitation.
