Acer Aspire AS7750G-6871 Intel Core i5 2410 6GB 750GB 17.3IN Radeon 6850 DVDRW WIN7 HP Notebook
Cons:Bilingual keyboard (I'm bilingual and I hate these keyboards), lack of ports/ExpressCard slot.
Pros:Good frame rates at high quality settings (native 1600x900). Plays MW3, BF3, BF:BC2, AvP, Dead Island, etc with no problems. |
I bought this laptop with mobile gaming in mind. The 6850M and Core i5 have been up to the task of playing all of my favourite games with few, if any, hiccups. I was willing to make some sacrifices (see Cons:) in order to get an affordable gaming platform and the trade offs have been worth it.I'm not fussy about anything to do with keyboards EXCEPT key placement. Acer really needs to stop manufacturing Canadian versions of their laptops with bilingual keyboards. The ergonomics of adjusting to the smaller, misplaced keys is unpleasant and unnecessary. As I mentioned in the Cons:, I'm bilingual and I find these keyboards impossible to use. I bought a compatible English replacement keyboard on eBay immediately and replaced it . My previous laptop had 4x USB ports and I didn't think missing one would make much of a difference, but I've noticed it. Lack of ExpressCard slot means I won't be using any of my drives with eSATA.Both of these issues (replaced keyboard, can use a USB hub and live without eSATA) have been easy to cope with while enjoying the hell out of my favourite games at very playable frame rates (I consider that to be sustained 40+...usually much higher) at, usually, high quality settings.I am very satisfied with the performance of this laptop with all of the games mentioned in the Pros: field. Ultimately, I may replace the laptops HDD with a SSD but otherwise I'm happy with this thing as-is (with the English keyboard).I use this (and all my laptops) with a notebook cooler. I'm using the Zalman ZM-NC1500 with this laptop and even under gaming-load for a couple of hours the laptop's surface is barely over room temperature (though the exhaust temperature is understandably high). I don't find the sound of the laptop or the cooler offensive as I'm used to having a tower with 5 fans sitting beside me.Would have given 5 stars but for the bilingual keyboard.
