Acer Aspire E1-431-4662 Intel Pentium B960 4GB 500GB 14in DVDRW WLAN Windows 7 Home Premium
Cons:- Cheap built quality- Terrible (bilingual) keyboard- Terrible trackpad
Pros:- Dirt Cheap- Relatively Cool/Quiet- Fast/Plays 1080p Video without stuttering- Decent screen Comment:
To start off, I should mention that I picked up this laptop on sale at $299 + tax and I give it 4 stars based on the fact it is dirt cheap and I didn't have very high expectations.First, the title is wrong in stating that the CPU is B960. Description is correct -- it is B950.I bought this laptop to act as my media centre PC and it excels at that. 1080p mkv videos are not a problem. I recommend Media Player Classic for playback. It runs cool and you can barely hear the fan. As far as I am concerned, mission accomplished.Now... if you think you can use this as your primary computer, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere. The bilingual keyboard is a pain to use. Nothing wrong with French, but freaking Acer... please, don't be lazy and make two separate versions of the laptop.Trackpad is even worse. At times the cursor gets stuck, the webpage zoom is activated for no reason, scroll does weird things... I think I would shoot myself in the face if I had to use it on daily basis. The built quality sure feels cheap in general, but at this price, it's hard to complain (but I just did anyway, so deal with it).If you're looking for a 2nd laptop that will play all the media you can throw at it, this is good enough. However, if you think of using this as your primary computer, please save the aggravation and shoot yourself now. The end. |
