Acer Iconia Tab W500-BZ607 10.1" Tablet PC
Cons:Annoying always-on blue windows button, keyboard dock: weight ratio & mount. Random mouse clicks in the bottom right corner (patch released which fixes this).
Pros:Nice screen, responsive touch, gorilla glass!, quiet operation, versatility of a Windows O/S, keyboard dock included. Comment:
Been using this tablet and love it so far with the exception of a couple of things. 1) The blue Windows button is always on and if you are using the tablet in bed with the lights out and the screen brightness down, the blue light is the most irritating thing! I hate it so much! The other thing is the keyboard dock, it's very light which makes the setup top heavy when the tablet is docked on. It's fine on a flat surface but if you incline it back a little it will want to topple back on you. The next problem with the mount is that it uses a friction click lever system to pop the usb/mounting pins into position; if you want to use the keyboard in bed you can't let it tip forward or else it will fold over, spit itself off the dock (maybe drop on the floor or other bad things). Those are my 2 beefs with this thing. It has many good things about it though. Running windows 7 is great although it isn't what I would consider completely touch optimized. But being Windows, there are many software options available to you. After tweaking, I have a really friendly interface which makes using it a breeze now. Having used a touchscreen phone for the past 2 years has given me an advantage too, others may find touching the "close", "minimize", etc... buttons to be cumbersome. There is a patch for these tablets to fix a known issue where the cursor will move the lower right of the screen and give you random mouse clicks. Video playback is good. I haven't tried playing 1080P but 720 was fine. On the whole I'm satisfied with this tablet. |
Bought this to take with me on my vacation to Europe. Loaded it up with some of my movies on a 32 GB SD memory card for the boring parts, was ready to do email, blog update s and Skype with my family whenever I could find a WiFi hotspot. Video play back is great, playing typical 'easy' games like Plants Vs Zombies is perfect on this tablet and the included cover that doubles as a keyboard dock was the icing on the cake for me. I was in one location that only had a wired internet connection, which worked out perfectly for me as the keyboard dock includes an ethernet port. The biggest complaints of the keyboard is that it doesn't always register every key press I make and I keep hitting the 'mouse buttons' at the bottom by mistake instead of the space bar.Windows 7 is not so great for touch screens but at least you know what you are working with. The mouse/cursor is going to the bottom right of the screen but I heard there is an update for this.My company is going to be buying these for our Sales Reps, at least partially based on my experience. If you need a Windows operating system, this is a great tablet, the keyboard really makes a diff.
