Archival Methods White Cotton Gloves (Small)
Cons:
Drivers are not often updated which isn't a problem as I have never had an issue with them.
Pros: Near perfect 3d soundscape, amazing sound for a headset and better sound than a lot of the headphones at the same price range, Usb soundcard offers great options specified for the headset, all parts are removable for travel or customized cord length, VERY sturdy design. |

Cons:
- Had to RMA my first set because the left channel stopped working.
Pros: - Great bass and quality.- Nice long extension cord included.- Cord has a nice feel to it, not the standard plastic-ish coating. Comment:
I've used the headset with the included sound card (virtual 7.1 is pretty cool to play around with) and with a Auzentech Forte (amplified headphone plug) and it sounds good all the time. However after several hours of usage it does start to hurt the back of my ears a bit, but this changes from person to person. |

Cons:
not so good at movie and mp3
Pros: excellent performance in CS Comment:
I bought this about 5 month ago, it has an excellent performance in CS, when i used it in CS, the foot steps sound so clear that my enemies thought i was cheating....,however when it is used in movie, i dont feel good, then give it to my sister who was in a clan and then change to siberia.if you want to buy a gaming headphone, this is the perfect choice, however, you shall never expect its performance in mp3 and movie |

Cons:horrible sound, just terrible..cost to performance ratio
Pros:looks (subjective)mic is decentcan take them apart for easy transport? (is this really necessary?) Comment:
I purchased these last Thursday and had the opportunity to test them at a friends' place over the weekend (he had raved to me about these headphones a few times over the past few months)... they were on sale so I thought I would jump at the chance to get them at a good price (later I checked a local place, i.e. no shipping, and they were only $3 more than NCIX's sale price)... anyway, these sound HORRIBLE!! We tried them out on the Left 4 Dead 2 demo using my own cans (which are a piece of crap) and these... onboard sound with the original cans sounded WAY better.. plugging the original ones into the USB dongle from these gave sound that was vastly superior to the 5H V2's. For reference, we tested against Plantronics .Audio 365's .. which I would not recommend to anyone either. But they sounded so incredibly bad that I'm absolutely astonished.. various sound settings were used as I thought it was just a configuration problem but nothing could make them sound even remotely decent. |

Cons:The driver is annoying when first setting up but I got through it quickly either way. There was also this problem with ventrillo where people could hear a beeping when i talked. I could not find a solution anywhere and finally found out all you have to do is change the frequency of the mic in the driver from 48 to 44 and blamo, its fixed.
Pros:Very durable, well built headset. I have dropped this thing countless times, tugged the cord out of its attachment and everything else you could think of with no problems occuring. The headset doesnt touch my ears at all without making my ears overly hot. I can wear the headphones for up to 6 hours without even noticing they're on. Sound is amazing in games and pretty good for music. You could find better headphones if your an audiophile but then you wouldn't really be looking for a headset anyways. Mic is clear, and retractable option is very nice. I could not recommend any other headset in this price range better than this. Comment:
I am very very glad I got this headset and would definitely buy it again. If your looking for great gaming headphones and crystal clear mic, this is for you. |

Cons:Not the best to listen to movies/tv(low volume)
Pros:Retractable microphoneEasy on the ears Comment:
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with this unit as a headset. Played a few hours with it on the PS3 and it worked perfectly and most importantly, they were very comfortable to wear. The only negative I would say with these headphones are, if you are using just the analog headphone jack and not the usb connection, you'll notice the volume on them is quite low. |

Cons:not enough bass
Pros:Good soundThe usb sound card is better then my ac97 onboard soundcardnice microphonereally really comfortable Comment:
I bought this to compete online at counter-strike sourcethe headset is doing his job giving a nice quality sound and ability to hear footstep. The sound lack of bass but I got used to it after a while. The usb microphone has a huge difference of sound quality compare to my onboard ac97 audio card. The good thing about this headset is that it is really comfortable for your ear wont hurt at all. I recommand this or check out the hd 555 from sennheiser it's good as well combine with a good sound card. |

Cons:usb sound card
Pros:Comfortableretractable micdecent sound quality Comment:
As many would expect, the usb sound card is nothing compared to dedicated sound cards. I bought it for a friend and right now he is very satisfied. He mainly plays CS and he likes the sound quality. Not the best headphones around this price point for music and games, I personally got the HD555s and they are a charm with a dedicated sound card. Overall these aren't bad headphones. |

Cons:Mic cound be ~1" longer to position correctly
Pros:Excellent overall Quality and SoundSturdy conctruction Comment:
I've had this headset for a while now. I have the one without the USB sound card.I have to say that this headset is awesome. It fits well and has sturdy construction. The mic stores very nicely into the left earpiece. The volume controls are nice and easy to use of course.I use these for talking on a Ventrilo server while playing World of Warcraft and Age of Conan. The quality of the voice is quite good. I have not used these to listen to music so I cannot comment on their suitability for that purpose. |

Cons:my right channel cut out just last week, braided cord becomes looser over time, like many heatsets it's wiring is fragile/poor quality, audio leaks alot
Pros:Great sound quality, extreme comfort, USB sound card works well, positional audio works well, braided cord could potentialy last longer, easy to hear people talking to you with them on Comment:
one of the best headphones i have owned. like i said, the positional audio is just aboot right and these are VERY comfortable, they keep my ears nice and warm, break-away cord so they can be used with an mp3 player even though it has problems with audio leakage. |

Archival Methods White Cotton Gloves (Small)
Cons:-Braided Wires can unravel, and I can not think of a way to fix it without ruining the overall look of the headset-Retractable microphone seems like a gimmick, as it doesn't retract very nicely.-The defective ratio of Steel Sounds are high.-Without the USB sound card, or a PCI sound card in general, this Headset is not anything special
Pros:-Great in-game sound-Great positional sound-Comfy, and keep your ears warm (Not too warm)-My game really improved with these headsets-It has a built-in microphone, unlike many other quality headsets. (Seinhesser/Siberia's Clip-on). Comment:
Note: This product is actually called Steel Sound, I have no idea why NCIX calls it SteelPad. The company is steel, and it was different branches. Audio related things are called Sound, mouse surfaces are called pads, and keyboards are called keys. These headsets have a high defection rate, which is why many people tend to rate them badly. But they are reluctant to believe that the headset is defective and do not return it.Truthfully, if your smart enough to learn to use RMA's, it's a great headset. I was lucky enough to get one that was not defective on the first try.Just as a note, some things that can become defective are:- The wiring in the headset will make the sound disappear, or it will just crackle (Like the previous reviewer stated)- It was been known for the microphone to stop recieving, but it seems that they fixed that in the V2.- The ear pad foam is looseAnyways, these headsets are a mixed reaction for me. They are large, and comfy; thus, they keep my ears warm and tend to hate to take them off because of it. The sound quality in them for gaming is extraordinary, but for people who listen to music it may not suite their need.I enjoy the concept of the microphone being pulled out, and I'm actually lucky it's there. Alot of quality headsets that range in the +$100 tend to only come with a clip-on mike or none at all (Seinhessers and Siberia) which, clip-on's I really do not like to use. But, this microphone seems more of a gimmick to me, the retractable microphone doesn't work as well as I would like. It tends to be reluctant to come out, and I have to apply more force them I believe is necessary; I tend not to retract it anymore. I believe that the retraction mechanism could be better, because as of now it just feels like I'm shoving something into a snail shell and the microphone finds it's way to bend. The braided wiring is a hit and miss. I like the fact that it's braided as I can feel that it is more durable and sturdy... But the downside is that in the end it's just threads. And if anyone has ever owned a shoelace, threads can tend to unravel. I have found that near the splice of the audio and microphone cords, my thread is unraveling and I'm trying to think of a way to fix it without making it look bad (Like by wrapping black thread around it and tying it at the end). The disassembling headset works as a charm, but I find that I tend to use it less then I thought I would. I go to LAN parties frequently, which is why I wanted a headset directed towards portability and thought I would disassemble it frequently- That never happened. Not that I'm saying it's a bad thing, it can be useful... But I also found it as a gimmick because I'd sooner put it back in the box or wear it around my neck to the LAN's instead of shoving it in a bag disassembled.Lastly, I only believe that this headset's true beauty though comes when your in a close-quarter FPS like counter-strike WITH the USB sound card. Without the USB sound card, I can not see this headset being anything special. It's the 7.1 surround sound that makes this headset excel. All in all, I would purchase this product again if I had the choice, but if Seinhessier would come out with an +HD555 with a microphone, it would definately out play the Steel Sound. (The Seinhesser that comes with a microphone, I believe the PC's, are not overly great compared to the HD555's. |

Cons:Light WieghtPortablePrice
Pros:Comfortable Comment:
Headphones crackle and bass distorts even on low volume. In 7.1 mode these things are very muffled. These things do not do any more than my 9.99 waly mart specials. Not worth the 120 dollars even if they didnt crackle. This review was modfied by poster @ 11-16-06 12:15 AM |
I have owned these headphones for over 5 years and still absolutely love them. The design is insanely sturdy as I drop my headset an average of twice a night for the past 5 years and other than some scrapes it is perfect. The sound is excellent for a headset and the virtual 7.1 available through the usb sound card makes for a near perfect 3d soundscape in game. I dare you to use these in an fps and not be accused of hacking. No one will ever sneak up behind you ever again. Tip top recommendation for a serious gamer. I have converted all my friends to steelseries and they have never been happier. Do not pass these up! Check out steelseries.com and find great gamer gear that fits your needs.
