Audio-Technica ATH-M40X Professional Studio Closed Back Monitor Headphones - Black
Cons:Cabling could be a problem for some
Pros:Sound quality, build quality Comment:
I have only had these for around a day but not much more is needed. The sound is very balanced/flat, nothing overpowers anything (if you want a bit more bass, you could always use an EQ. The driver is big enough). Lows and good, mids don't get lost, highs are rich. If your music is bad quality these won't add anything that's for sure, make sure to have most if not all of your music at 320 kbps. The build quality is impressive for plastic, but it is to be expected with Audio Technica. The coiled cable can be used for daily use since it's not that long and it's my personal favorite. The cables are proprietary, but you could find some knock offs with some digging. Compared to the M50X these are obviously not as good but It's scary how close they come. The M50X fail to justify the price bump for me. |

Audio-Technica ATH-M40X Professional Studio Closed Back Monitor Headphones - Black
Cons:Kinda "plasticy". I'm afraid I will break them. Holding up ok so far though.
Pros:Great sound, extra long replaceable cord, comes with two cords. Comment:
Great headphones if you can get them on sale. Long cable is just what I needed for home use. Would be too long to use with phone/ipod etc. but cable is replaceable. Just go pick up a shorter 1/4" cable and plug it in and away you go. |
I got these for Christmas to replace my 7 years old Sennheiser HD 280 Pro. The sound on the 280 Pro is still very good even after 7 years, however the cuffs have been completely destroyed and it is now uncomfortable to wear. This time, I didn't go in store to listen to the headphones before buying them (or asking to Santa). I trusted many online reviews...and I am not disappointed.Compared to the 280 Pro, these are very light. They are more comfortable to wear and you can't really feel them even during long periods. The sound quality is very good. A bit more bass than the 280 Pro, which are crystal clear, but it is a good and warm sound. I enjoy it so far. For reference, these headphones are plugged into a Denon MC-6000 unit, so the sound quality of the sound card is good. The Audio Technica do feel cheaper than the Sennheiser. They are lighter but also feel more plastic. As I had them for only 2 weeks, I can't comment on durability, but I would be surprised if they last me 7 years. However, this doesn't affect the overall score.I really like these headphones. I still have my Sennheiser if I ever want to go back. But so far, I never thought about going back.Get it on sale. At 80$ on sale, they are a steal !
