Audio-Technica ATR2100-USB Cardioid Dynamic USB / XLR Microphone
Cons:Running over USB, recording is nearly inaudible.
Pros:At the moment, none. Comment:
The problem with this device at the moment is that AT does not provide a USB driver for it, it uses the default windows USB audio driver. The issue this causes is that on the default USB driver you can only set input volume, not the gain(boost, in Microsoft vernacular), with the input volume at 100% and the mic only a few inches away from my face, speaking loudly enough that anyone in my apartment would be able to hear me clearly, the recording I get back is a whisper. If you search for this specific issue you will find many reports, and no solutions. Audio Technica's default response seems to be that it is a Microsoft Windows issue, despite the fact that their own manual clearly shows a 'Boost' setting in their Windows 7 setup guide.Technically they are correct, it is a Windows 7 default driver issue, but the fact of the matter is that their product is advertised as a USB mic which is compatible with Windows 7, the performance is unsatisfactory and they do not seem to be willing to assist from what I have seen so far.I have reached out to AT for a reply to my concerns and I will update this review if they are able to resolve the problem. |
