Azio KB178RT Wireless Trackball Tumb 2.4GHZ Slim Profile Keyboard W/ Mini USB Dongle - Black
Cons:ALT-F4 requires hitting ALT-FN-F4, doesn't have a windows key
Pros:Thumb trackball, nice sized keys, great signal strength |
I've had a couple of HTPC keyboards and this one is by far the best. It has a strong signal, doesn't miss keys often, and re-transmits if it does miss. The trackball is by far the best and fastest way to navigate your HTPC. I've tried keyboards that have touchpads built in and they just don't work well, with jittery motion that often doesn't get transmitted. The keys are a nice size on this board. Some such as the Candyboard are very very tiny, almost like an early cell phone. Not good if you have fat fingers. These keys are maybe 2x bigger. The only defect is my trackball appears to be made of plastic, while other reviews I read on other sites said theirs was metal and felt like solid quality. As a result, the ball seems to have a small defect or imperfection that prevents moving left from time to time, but it doesn't happen often enough to be a huge bother. It doesn't have a windows key, which means you have to press CTRL-ESC to get the start menu if in windows. That also means you can't use WinKey shortcuts. I don't seem to use them at all on my HTPC anyway but it was a concern for a friend who exclusively uses shortcuts.
