BFG GS-550 ATX Power Supply - 500W, SATA-Ready
Cons:Not 80+Wouldnt consider this the best quality either...
Pros:Cheap on sale (30$)Good look (silver mirroring finish) Comment:
Great for cheap build when you get this on sale, otherwise not much more can be said about it other than it looks good but again its not 80PLUS so dont expect top notch efficiency either.. |

BFG GS-550 ATX Power Supply - 500W, SATA-Ready
Cons:GS is lower level in lineup.Power rating a bit deceiving.
Pros:Fairly solid for 39.99 on weekly special.Nice finish.Quiet. Lots of sleeved connectors. Comment:
For the sale price paid, I'm happy with these units (have 2). They are reasonably weighted, quiet and all the lines are neatly sleeved. Good finish and all the connectors I needed to use on mid-range systems. However... I would be disappointed had I paid regular price, given its power capability (see other reviewers comments). |

BFG GS-550 ATX Power Supply - 500W, SATA-Ready
Cons:- Nice finish, but mine had scratch marks and corners of the rating sticker were damaged.- Not 80plus certified
Pros:- Nice finish- Powers my system just fine, and quiet enough for my standards Comment:
My unit exhibits coil whine when there is no load on the 5v line. It fortunately is not loud enough to irritate me. |

BFG GS-550 ATX Power Supply - 500W, SATA-Ready
Cons:A bit quick to power a more powerfull GPU.
Pros:Excellent power supply. Excellent color. Comment:
This PSU is a nice PSU for a mid power system, a GTX 250. A dual or quad core cpu. Works well and is quiet. This review was modfied by poster @ 06-02-09 11:40 AM |

BFG GS-550 ATX Power Supply - 500W, SATA-Ready
Cons:Rated at Peak*Somewhat Light*
Pros:Sale PriceQuality Brand Name Comment:
At $40 on sale you get a very good PSU for a budget build that you won't have to worry about 'blowing up' and taking components from your computer with it.BFG is a brand name PSU that puts out quality products that are miles ahead of the generic paperweight PSUs you'd normally get at the sale price. It does what it's supposed to do, run a decent computer without any hiccups. As for weaknesses, you get what you pay for, this PSU is really only about a 400W on load and normal operating conditions; and it's about half the weight of the equivalent Corsair or Seasonic series PSUs. |

BFG GS-550 ATX Power Supply - 500W, SATA-Ready
Cons:none
Pros:Quite operation Comment:
This works without any issues is pretty quiet . With the 4+4 12V power removes some clutter better solution than some of my other power supplies that have an unused 4 or 8 pin power connector as I haven't come across a board that needs both. Would have been nice if the cables were modular but I can't complain for the low price.Very good deal would buy again. |

BFG GS-550 ATX Power Supply - 500W, SATA-Ready
Cons:Only for lower end systems - 400W or soDon't buy at regular price
Pros:PrettyFeels solid, well built qualityShinyBig fanQuiet - moves enough airSleeved at $40!Pretty shiny Comment:
First off, don't expect this to be a true 550W psu. It's probably closer to 350-400W. However, this thing is pretty ...it looks/feels very nicely built and they didn't skimp on materials. It's worth it when it's on sale for $40, when you're only powering a low-end system. Amazingly, cables are sleeved at this price. It's also got a big fan that moves a decent amount of air quietly.Gonna be the prettiest thing in my older system. Did I mention this thing is pretty and shiny? =) |

BFG GS-550 ATX Power Supply - 500W, SATA-Ready
Cons:Can only long-term SLI with weaker cardsNot quiet enough for silentPC standards
Pros:Low noiseGood airflow through 140mm FanSufficient power for one higher-end graphics cardSleeved cables, long wiresGood bang for buck Comment:
A buddy and I each grabbed one of these PSU's when they went on sale a few weeks ago.One was used to replace a Seasonic 350WThe other was used on a new Core2Duo system. When compared with the Seasonic, the GS550 is definitely more powerful, and pushes more air through for cooling, but when it came to noise standards the Seasonic is easily the quieter option. But, that's pretty much the end of the bad news for this well priced unit. The Core2Duo system was as follows:Core2Duo E74004Gb XMS2Seagate 7200.12 500GbSamsung DVD+RWeVGA 250GTS Superclockedeverything is running factor-set speeds. No OC up to now.I am not a professional when it comes to power supplies, but the power supply seems to stay solid within 5% on voltages when playing games and priming. The noise level COULD be better, but it is within reason when given its price, and power rating. Just for the record this is not supposed to compare to BFG's previous high-spec power supplies. This is more mainstream, sold in bix-box stores. The cables are nicely sleeved in black mesh, long enough for its use, and can be easily cable managed. Even when used inside a bottom-mount tower case, the CPU plug is still sufficiently long to reach the top of the board.HOWEVER, the CPU power cord will likely not be long enough in a case bigger than the Antec 900!The unit does not have Active PFC, but BFG promised up to 85% efficiency, which should be an upside, if the ratings are true.At the standard price, there are better options, but if it's on special, and your requirement is something short of a quad-core + dual VGA, this unit will power everything just fine. This PSU was a wise choice for me. This review was modfied by poster @ 05-01-09 12:33 AM |

BFG GS-550 ATX Power Supply - 500W, SATA-Ready
Cons:Only measured for peak wattage, not continuous
Pros:Attractive, shiny housingQuietSale pricingSheathed cabling Comment:
For the sale price of $40, this is a decent PSU. I wouldn't pay full price (currently $75.57) for it, though. The 140mm fan seems quiet enough, and it powers a very underwhelming system (Phenom 9500 & Gigabyte mATX board). Currently, it's happily sitting at the bottom of an Antec 300 case with the fan facing *down*. The power output should be sufficient for almost all usages, with the exceptions of high-end gaming and server use. The cable sheaths have a UV-reactive pattern on them that can only be seen when the black light is turned on - nice touch! |

Cons:Could be quieter
Pros:Price on saleGood looking3 years warranty Comment:
Paid 40$ on sale. Great value for the price. Louder than my Corsair PSU but for the price I can't complain much. 3 years warranty is good. This review was modfied by poster @ 04-20-09 07:14 PM |

BFG GS-550 ATX Power Supply - 500W, SATA-Ready
Cons:I'm not sure if it's the power supply or not, but when I reboot, the pc shuts off for about 3 seconds and then restarts. Nothing major, just kind of annoying.
Pros:Got this thing cheap, has lots of power to run graphics cards. Seems rather solid, decently quiet. Comment:
I have 2 of these, and one of them is still going strong. The other one however recently died while I was hot-swapping some hard drives over. I've tried everything to get it going, but so far no luck. After this I'll stick to BFG's graphics cards and leave their power supplies alone.I would give it 2 stars if I could, but I don't have my order number. |

BFG GS-550 ATX Power Supply - 500W, SATA-Ready
Cons:-Housing is large for a 550w PSU
Pros:-Price-Good Looks Comment:
My only gripe with this PSU is that the housing is larger than my 620w Enermax. Overall a good quality product and wasn't that expensive. |

Cons:Unit was defective and I sent it back.
Pros:It was pretty Comment:
Came packaged really nicely. Was pretty... but, when I turned it on it wouldn't turn off! Also, the fan inside was sounding like it was rubbing on something. Sent it back... gonna try a coolermaster. NCIX RMA'd it for me. |

Pros:Large 140mm Cooling Fan which is very silent. Beautiful paint job. Cables are jacketed/shielded Comment:

BFG GS-550 ATX Power Supply - 500W, SATA-Ready
Cons:-Peak wattage rating is a bit confusing (vs. continuous)-Odd cable connector combinations (2xSATA + 1xMolex)
Pros:-Inexpensive-Cables are jacketed-Big 140mm fan Comment:
I bought this for a low power HTPC application on the weekly sale and it works without any issues (It's quiet enough). 4+4 12V power removes some clutter (better solution than some of my other power supplies that have an unused 4 or 8 pin power connector as I haven't come across a board that needs both). Would have been nice if the cables were modular but I can't complain for the price. Here's hoping it lasts. |
I got this PSU for a new Rig I had NCIX build me. IT's currently running an EVGA NFORCE 750I MB, Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550, and a GTS 250 without any problems at all. It's a great supply for your budget-medium builds.
