I personally bought this not for its ability to transfer from older to newer computer but as a last resort for transferring between two systems in lieu of any other means (router, external, flash drive, etc).Note that Windows Easy Transfer system (which is what you're forced to use for trasferring) is very crackbaby in orientation, you have to use it or install the software provided if you're transferring anything from a computer with older OS's like Windows XP or Vista.I prefer drag and drop  in explorer etc, but I can stomach the dialogue box transfer even if it is annoying. WET does annoying things like immediately checks off stuff it thinks you want to transfer and uses the category "Apps" in one of them. Unselect  everything and go to the dialogue explorer and just pick whatever you want to transfer.
