CHAS ATX MINI 1U 14IN 2X 3.5 1X IO REAR USB 200W
Cons:Very limited hard drive mounting options, tight fit on some full-sized ATX boards, power supply is not 80Plus certified
Pros:Simple, lightweight, inexpensive 1U chassis, Good power supply, supports LN4 boards (quad ethernet), only 14" deep - doesn't need rails |
This chassis is for those builds where you need it rackmounted, but don't need RAID, redundant power or multiple fans. It has a "squirrel cage blower" fan, which gets the job done, but you may want to stick with a low TDP, dual core processor to avoid thermal issues. It DOES fit many quad ethernet boards (-LN4 suffix), which makes it a great choice for housing a PFSense firewall/router box, Asterisk PBX, or as a head-unit for an external SAN.Hard drive mounting is extremely limited with only 2 internal 3.5" drives (no hot-swap). To use 2.5" drives, you'll need adapters but it is possible to mount four of these smaller drives, especially if you use SSDs which put out very little heat.
