This cable provides a LINE OUT from iPod, which is a much better sound quality output than the standard headphones output. When using headphones, you barely notice the distortion in sound, because the volume level is low. But when you intend to use your iPod in a home stereo or car stereo (which have a more powerful amplifier than iPod's), the LINE OUT is recommended. Beware, you need to check if your home or car system has an AUX input to connect the other end of the cable. After connected, you still have to control the iPod with its buttons, but the volume adjustments will be controlled by your home or car system. This cable has only an audio line output, therefore it will not charge or control your iPod. But you'll get a cleaner sound output.

I do not usually write reviews but this product did not work. Plugged it in and no music. It might have been a faulty product but I had to return it as defective.
