Canon CanoScan LiDE200 Flatbed Scanner
Cons:Can't scan negatives. Scan quality is great for text/documents, and so-so for photos.
Pros:Very thin, relatively quick, single mini-USB connector for data/power. Great deal when on sale for $99. Comment:
This is a very thin, relatively quick scanner. The single mini-USB connector for data/power is perfect. Great deal when on sale for $99.Hard to complaint at this price point, but you can't scan negatives. Scan quality is great for text/documents, but only so-so for photos. Again, this is a $100 scanner so I am quite happy with it.The scanner works great with Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit) and is apparently also MAC compatible. Make sure you download the latest driver on Canon's website. The software for scanning is pretty decent and the CD software install lets you deselect the driver install should you manually want to install the newer version from the Canon website separately. |
I bought this for $90 with the intention of archiving a few photo albums. So far, I have plugged the scanner into Win7-64 and the drivers automatically installedBecause I hate all the junk that comes with the included disc, I did some research and installed irfanview freeware as my scanning software (install, and you'll find it under the 'file' pulldown menu near the bottom. It works well, but you'll have to adjust some of the scanning preferences to get the right colours etc. You'll figure it out with some testing.I read that people have different opinions as to the sound this unit makes. It makes a variety of odd sounds, none of which are loud. I could use the scanner in the library, as long as nobody was too close to me.Also in my reading was that people say it scans dust. I thought that people just weren't very good at keeping their stuff clean, or that they didn't examine the inside of the unit. Shocked was I when my scans showed up with some dust! Thankfully, irfanview software has a dust removal feature that works fairly well (not perfect, but pretty good).Speed? Well its fast enough for me. I don't know how to quantify this as I haven't the energy to time any scans. Doesn't seem slow to me.Bottom line, its not perfect but if you're determined, you'll get some good scans out of this. I would rate photo scanning at 8.5/10 and overall considering the value 5/5 stars. I would buy it again.
