Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS Black 14.1 MP 28mm Wide Angle Digital Camera
Cons: No manual mode

Pros: Very compact, vibrant LCD, powerful auto mode, very neat "smart" timer function, intuitive menus, solid construction (metal casing), HD movie mode (720p)
Comment:
I bought this camera for my girlfriend as a gift. It's the perfect "go-everywhere" camera because it is so tiny. About the size of a credit card and 0.7" thick. Easily fits in a pocket. It also has a very solid construction, so you don't have to worry too much about carrying it around with you at all times. The full auto mode on this camera is really neat in that it detects what type of subject you're shooting (e.g. a person, a landscape, close-up object) and changes the shooting mode accordingly. I've never seen this kind of function before, but I thought it was a really nice touch. Also, you can get to this full auto mode with a hardware switch on the back of the camera, so you don't have to fiddle with the menus. The "smart" timers are very cool too. You can set the camera so the shutter only goes off when everyone in a group shot is smiling, or when you wink, or when an extra person walks into the shot. These are in addition to the normal timers. Unfortunately, these settings aren't found in the same place in the menu as the normal timers, which is a little odd.Image quality is quite good, but of course, you shouldn't expect any miracles. The only unfortunate aspect of this camera is that it doesn't have any sort of a manual mode. Granted, a manual mode isn't really a high priority for the target market of this camera, but I felt that a little more control would have been nice. That said, you can still control flash, exposure compensation, macro mode, and ISO settings in the Program Auto mode. All in all, I would highly recommend this camera as a daily shooter to anyone. After all, the best camera is the one you have with you.
