Corsair CC800D-SATA6KIT Obsidian 800D SATA 6GB/S Upgrade Kit
Cons:Single Power connector for 4 drives increases risk of loosing power by a cable becoming unplugged.
Pros:None, well maybe better cable management... Comment:
The new 800D's come with this "upgraded" backplane. You can tell if you have blue USB 3.0 ports on the front panel connector's.Also for those that have the older Obsidian 800D's, there is no need to get this kit. The Backplane's used in corsairs 800d series are just pass through connector's. There is no chip(s) or processing that would limit the connection to SATA2 vs. SATA3. You will also be increasing your risk by using the newer backplane since it uses 1 power connector versus discrete power connectors for each of the 4 Hard Drive bays. You can confirm this your self if you have IRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) drivers and utilities installed. It will tell you which mode (SATA2 vs. SATA3) you are running your drives in that are connected to the backplane. All the backplane does is give you convenient mounted connections for 4 Hard Drives which will also let you utilize Hotswap capabilities IF your motherboard or Raid Controller support this. The Discrete power connectors that came with the original 800d series towers are IMHO the better of the 2. There is no different from a performance perspective.I've confirmed this with either the built in SATA connections in use or my LSI 9260-4i using the backplane from an Obsidian 800D that was purchased in 2010/11.Any SATA3 (6Gb/s) hard rive connected to the "old" backplane is and does run at SATA3 speeds. Similarly, if I plug in a SATA1 or SATA2 drive they will with their rated SATA spec. SATA1 at 1.5Gb/s, SATA2 at 3Gb/s...Not sure why Corsair would release an "upgrade" when it isn't needed.Unless someone can prove me wrong, in that case I'd love to hear. |

Corsair CC800D-SATA6KIT Obsidian 800D SATA 6GB/S Upgrade Kit
Cons:Expensive z ncix
Pros:It Works!Easy to Install Comment:
This upgrade kit works as it should. The 800d bays make cable management even better if you are running 4 or less drives. Pricematch for a more reasonable price. |

Corsair CC800D-SATA6KIT Obsidian 800D SATA 6GB/S Upgrade Kit
Cons:Some got it free through Corsair CS
Pros:InexpensiveAds SATA6 support to my 800D Comment:
Only paid $10.80 for mine do to price matching.I got this kit to upgrade my older rev Corsair 800D case (that I didn't pay a penny for) and have it ready for my SATA3 SSD. It was easy breezy switch just wish NCIX would have had the USB 3.0 in stock also so I could replace them at the same time. |

Corsair CC800D-SATA6KIT Obsidian 800D SATA 6GB/S Upgrade Kit
Cons:Newer rev 800d may ship with it
Pros:Adds Sata 6G support to hot swap for older model 800d Comment:
If you are ordering this at the same time as a new Corsair 800d, hold off until you get the case, you may save yourself some $$.I recently ordered this upgrade at the same time as my 800d, however when I received the case, I noticed the upgraded backplate was already in place, hence, the additional upgrade kit wasn't required. In case you're wondering, the front I/O also had the newer pcb with 2 USB 2.0 replaced with USB 3.0. |

Corsair CC800D-SATA6KIT Obsidian 800D SATA 6GB/S Upgrade Kit
Cons:Layout has changedA bit expensive when considering cost of case originally
Pros:Seems of good qualityLayout has changed Comment:
I was surprised to see that Corsair changed the layout with this panel. Now instead of 4 separate panels, one for each HD position there is one big panel. I guess that can be an advantage depending on your layout. I see it as a pain but hopefully everything will transit over smoothly.Considering what this case cost some may balk at paying more money to upgrade it but as some comments on NCIX have indicated you might get this for free from Corsair. If you can't be bothered to beg, remember that price matching is your friend.A really big shout-out to NCIX for even carrying these. Another shout-out to Corsair for producing this and the updated USB 3 front panel item. It shows that they consider this case top tier and want to keep it that way. |
Would've costed way more ordering direct from Corsair. This was an affordable upgrade considering I received free shipping.
