D-Link DSM-330 DivX Connected HD Media Player - Retail
Cons:Some plug-ins are buggy but that's not the fault of the machine. USB port cannot be used for any other purpose but updating the firmware. Requires always-on server PC, but that adds to the speediness, and expandability factors. Not uPnP AV compliant.
Pros:Very easy to set-up. Very high quality renders of DivX/XviD content. Fast browsing. Good plug-ins, ability to write own plug-ins. Future proof. |
Researched many streaming boxes and HTPCs and this box has the best price/performance ratio. No uPnP server does it all and does it well, the DivX connected server just works and is infinitely expandable. Used to use my Wii with Orb to watch my movies on TV, this is like night and day, full color, full frame rate, full resolution. Wife and Kids friendly. Even got my Father-in-law to buy one. Once I show more people I'm sure they'll buy some too.
