EVGA GeForce GT 520 (Fermi) 01G-P3-1521-KR Video Card
Cons:FAN NOISE
Pros:Decent performance, good value, HDMI output Comment:
Bought this little guy for my HTPC to better play HD video. The card itself catches a lot of slag online, mostly for not being powerful enough to play newer games on high settings. That's a bit of a non-argument though, because the target market isn't gamers, it's HTPC's and people looking for a bit of a boost beyond built-in mobo graphics.Performance is good, I've been able to play very large high quality videos flawlessly.Biggest downside is the THE NOISE OF THE FAN. Seriously, you'd think a card aimed directly at the HTPC market would be either fanless or come equipped with a very quiet fan. Not so with the EVGA GeForce GT 520. The fan runs constantly, and it sounds like the high pitched whine of a jet idling before takeoff. This isn't really noticeable when you're watching a movie with a decent amount of action, but when there's a lull, the steady "WHHHHHHEEEEEEEEE" takes away from the atmosphere. I'm considering either disabling the fan or looking into an aftermarket cooling solution, because the noise gets pretty tiresome. |
I bought this card for a small form factor pc to replace the onboard intel gpu. So far decent performance.
