Edifier R1200 Active Monitor 2.0 Speaker Set 16W RMS Wood Mdf Enclosure
Cons:Nosebleed sharp tweeter, poor SQ and balance, no pre outs for powered sub.
Pros:Inexpensive, active, attractive, bass control, dual pre-ins. |
I had high expectations for these, after all, they are called "monitors". You don't do that by putting a product up that does that title shame.Well, I was wrong. There is nothing "bad" for what your getting here for $60, but its easy to get misled as to what these actually are and monitors they are not.First, the tweeter (or a very peaky midrange driver) is waaaaaaaay too hot. Even with the bass boost at full and at all volume levels, the sharpness of the tone is such that you'll get a nice ringing ear sensantion in no time.Unusable tone and balance nearfield, only moderatly acceptable at FAR-field.Yes they are a 1/3rd the price of the M-Audio AV40's, but in every aspect but bass response (this set is a little bit better) the AV40's demolish this set. I was at least hoping for a respectable smooth balance with the savings coming from cheaper cabinetry less finesse in the audio department. But as they are, I can ONLY recommend them to people who like blistering highs. A 0/-3/-6 db tweeter pad or a mid cut notch filter would have saved these most likely.
