I operates perfectly with not a sinlge probblem. It is being sold as a 300MB/s Sata II drive, but when I connect it to my esata port it is only a 150MB/s Sata I drive |

great drive for the value. I particularly like the simple understated style. It was recognized by my Ubuntu box promptly and formated it to reiserfs. Fast for the very first 500 Gig, I had transfer speeds up to 32Mbs as the drive fills it is down to 8Mbs. It is fine for retrieval, but transferring information is slower than anticipated. Going to try e-sata cable to see if it tends to make a actual distinction. |

Straightforward to Use external tough drive. Basically plug it in and commence utilizing it. Also, the price is pretty nice. Mail-in rebates. Seems like it's just an additional way for corporations to hold on to your really hard earned dollar. |

Mass storage space. Capable to stick ALL my mini DV tapes plus ALL my songs onto this one particular difficult drive. When transferring my films and songs and photos to this external challenging drive working with the ESATA cable, I noticed I was only acquiring transfer rates up to 50 mbps. I thought it stated up to 300 mbps. Am I doing some thing incorrect? |

Difficult aluminum case great for deployments, has an E-Sata port and USB. Really vibrant Blue LED light but very easily fixed with a piece of tape to tone it down a bit. For me the E-Sata did not work but i believe that that is my computers fault. Would get once again. |

Comment:
Initially time owner of a fantom product, these drives are rather good essentially, inexpensive with massive space, and sata and usb, cant drop. Usb functions fantastic, powerful metal case with vents is a plus, and 5400rpm drive is a mixup, not as rapid, but cooler, so its nice for a passive enclosure. works wonders for enormous media storage. ESATA isnt adequately supported beneath xp, so that can be a challenge with safely removing the drive, as effectively as appears to be slower that usb. ESATA is a fad at the moment, usb3 is on its way if the designers quit arguing, just use the usb, the cable has much more flex and legnth, not to mention theyre a lot more readily accessible. Its not the suppliers fault, its much more of a windows situation. |

Did anything an external should be expected to. It held the media I couldn't match on my lap prime. Value is good also. Upon accessing the drive, it takes a few seconds to whir to life before you can get at your stuff. Not a major deal but worth mentioning. My largest situation is with this thing's sturdiness. It comes in a beastly metal case, which you think would provide it some protection. Incorrect. I had this resting on the floor in the living area when I accidentally knocked it over with my foot (I wouldn't even contemplate it a kick). This brought on the arm to go off track and now I hear a continual clicking as it tries to access the information. The data can be salvaged I consider but now I want a new really hard drive. General this is a decent acquire. A trusted hard drive but it is far from sturdy. Keep that in thoughts if you ever program on this leaving your desk. |

Rapidly Western Digital drive. Tons of space. Supports a number of file systems flawlessly. Doesn't heat up and melt items like other externals. Supports USB and eSATA, the latter is considerably quicker and very advised. You have to plug it in. The energy adapters cable is extremely thin and tends to make me somewhat nervous. The drive can be noisy when idle, but isn't generally. I've got an NTFS partition an ext4 and a swap partition appropriate now and they all run together flawlessly. I have grub2 on it for booting amongst my ubuntu and windows installations. I had at a single point a different partition, a Mac OSX journaled. All four partitions worked together and booted fine, I just got bored of leopard |

I have had this drive for much more than a year now and it functions beautifully. It stays cool and is quite quiet. It spins down automatically soon after a specific period of inactivity so I don't have to worry about turning it off. Extremely rapidly transfer speeds, even with USB instead of eSATA. Drive came FAT32 formatted. Reformatting to NTFS took about 12 hours by means of USB cable. Also the blue light on the front can be distracting for watching films in a dark space, but I normally just turn it about and that solves the issue. |

Switch and compact size This drive is really, quite noisy! It clicks away constantly. I've returned the original and received a replacement -- twice. Very same clicking noise. Manufacturer thinks the clicking is just a quirk of the drive. Some quirk. I've owned about a dozen other drive and they all have been dead silent. This is not a plug and play unit and entails some reading and preparation for use. Manufacturer Response:For just about every drive there is a different level of noise and whilst some clicking is standard it may possibly be a sign of a issue with your tough disk. In your case we have tested the drive and found practically nothing incorrect every single time. We are at a loss to clarify your encounter except to suggest that the problem could be associated to environmental conditions (i.e, drives that are not completely level or vertical may click far more typically than usual). For everyone else experiencing this difficulty please speak to us at customercare@fantomdrives.com or 齠) 800-DISK Option Š. |

Rapidly transfer. I've had this a few months and it's been running properly. Because there are no fans in the case, it is pretty quiet. The case itself is extremely study, becoming of all metal construction. The detachable base that it comes with is of plastic building, but nonetheless appears fairly sturdy. I typically have the drive sitting on it's side anyways. Like others have mentioned, no eSATA cable, although I did not thoughts considering that it would just add to the expense and I just required USB. |

Extremely nice drive; rapidly and operates effectively. I use them to back up my Windows 2008 servers by means of some USB-over-Network software (since Win2008 Server only backs up to USB devices). Very slow rebate process. to 12 weeks" signifies three months!! I have had my drive for two months, and the rebate tracking shows that it has been authorized but not mailed yet. No fan, but appears to run fairly cool. |

Will personal this for a year tomorrow. Still functioning great like I just purchased it. It doesn't have a fan, consequently it's quiet. You'll have to be in an virtually totally silent space to hear the hdd spinning. Never had a heating problem, left it on for a week straight to test it and it was fine. You can really feel it's a little warm, but the tiny amount of heat isn't going to hurt anything. Like a lot of other evaluations, it's the blue light is a little bright if you have it on your desk. I duck taped it!!! Purchased this for 120, now you can get it for 70 soon after rebate =/.This is a great deal persons, if you're seeking for an external hdd, Purchase THIS. It's also got eSATA, so it transfer super fast - that if you have the eSATA port on your computer of course. USB is still rapid although, typically transfer 15mb+/sec from my Camcorder to this by means of USB.I just bought a 2TB Fantom =). Hopefully it's the exact same performance as this.**For those who didn't rated this as 5, you just had a undesirable luck on receiving a negative hdd =/ or I was lucky on acquiring a fantastic 1. If my 2TB gets here and works fantastic like this then it'll be much more clear to which case is suitable. I'll post once more when 2TB gets right here. |

No eSata cable, no cooling fan, almost certainly desires fan if you run these units 24-7. Rapid delivery from Newegg.com. Newegg.com packing could be far better, FANTOM packing is very good. |

Low cost and attractive Drive crapped out soon after 1.5 years. No warning, one of the drives is clunking, the other one appears ok, but the way it writes to the drives they both are worthless, unless I want to shell out ũ,500 to bring the information back. I lost some stuff, thankfully most was backed up to DVD This is a fantastic back up of a backup. I have some Western Digital drives which are 5 years old and they still work fantastic... Oh effectively... I nonetheless have one particular a lot more of these drives, I guess I need to have to program the exit strategy for that one as well. This challenging drive has been totally perfect for my wants. It has worked perfectly because I received it from Newegg and I haven't even had the hint of a problem but. None that I am aware of at this point. The activity LED died in the 1st two days, but it was really annoying and I was debating covering it with electrical tape anyway. |

Competitive value Broke immediately after 1 week. I fully grasp factors get bumped in transit, but I had this drive sitting subsequent to my personal computer for a week prior to a transistor fell off the circuit board inside, generating it inoperable as an external drive. Sorry Fantom, I decided the drive was additional crucial than paying to return it. I ended up just taking the drive out and just creating it an internal drive. |
Performs perfectly, even more quickly than I expected. Nice look, constantly cool to the touch. Quiet. none. Wish the drive could energy itself off the esata cable, but oh well.
