I use this for my travelling work tricky drive as properly as personal use. 1TB of space its plenty, I wonder if I will ever run out. Uncomplicated to use plug it in and it located the drivers and worked. Some files do not copy more than properly. Excellent drive general.

Reliable, eSata, doesn't die Sometimes scratchy noises, but that's not a actual challenge, and the blue light is rather bright (easily fixable) Have had this drive for two years now, and it's been fairly good. Transfer speeds are typical HD speeds.

Nicely produced, reasonable price tag. eSATA capable Only comes with a USB cable! If you're going to use it as an eSATA drive, you'll have to order the cable too.I employed it to upgrade my cable box's DVR storage capacity. For that, you'll need to have an eSATA to eSATA (Female to Female)cable. Newegg has it, so order it at the exact same time.

Solid housing, nice searching, trustworthy so far. I'm using this drive to back up my Linux file server, formatted drive as ext2. Power supply is non-descript and I can\'t come across its specs anywhere (checked the drive, checked the manual, checked the manufacturer site, etc.). Mine is lost in half a dozen other power supplies soon after my move - which a single is what?! If anybody could tell me what their power supply says (voltage, Amp) I would be most grateful... don't want to kill the drive with incorrect power provide! Thanks in advance. If Manufacturer is going to require an external power provide they really should properly label the drive with voltage specs.

Desirable case. Drive runs relatively quietly (but then my wife says I'm half deaf; nevertheless she doesn't consider it's noisy either!). The supplied USB cable is minimal (short and not effectively shielded). You have to purchase your personal eSATA cable. The drive in the package I received is an Hitachi. I bought it to expand my Tivo Series 3HD. It does NOT perform with the Tivo out of the package (it's formatted NTFS) but it can be converted to MFS format with the proper software. Sadly this demands opening your Tivo and removing it's internal drive (temporarily). Purchase the DVR rated drives if you're not tech savvy. Anyway I got my drive reformatted swiftly and it's hauling down HD content material like crazy. Hopefully this will hold up for a long whilst. I'll post once more if it fails (or if they quit selling this model, or if Tivo decides to remotely sabotage my unit). Extremely pleased thusfar.

Harddrive works effectively Rebate and Help. As soon as I got the drive I tried to submit the rebate claim. Right after I fill up the form on the net, I clicked the proceed button. It said the S/N is alredy claimed. What!!!. So I identified the support quantity and referred to as them. Couldn't directly speak to the rebate department. The message mentioned "leave a message". Not pleased with that!!Let's see if they are going to call me back. I will let you guys know how the assistance course of action go. A excellent drive, formated and partionned three instances with out any troubles. Run colder than my other external tricky drive. The drive situation is cold at touch.A have to if you require a 1To external tough drive. The eSata operates effectively, but I had to make the connected longer by cutting by means of the plastic to connect it appropriately. Functions with the Wii.

Alumunum case with ventilation keeps the drive cool. Two Drives working with no problems for many months now. I accidentally dropped 1 about two feet onto carpet even though it was playing a movie, and the movie kept playing uneffected. The light is bright. Taping it helped a tiny. I now have the lights facing away from me and all is excellent. The light is actually a non-issue--these drives rock! I'm planning on getting much more of these.

Uncomplicated to connect, tiny and quiet. Drive began to fail after much less than 3 months of use. We like the drive; is working nicely for us. It replaced our LaCie external drive. What we didn't like was the fact that we were denied the rebate of ฤ simply because I applied our Shipping Address details on the rebate form and not our Billing Address information (something that was not explained in the instructions). 1 of the reasons that we bought this item was since of the rebate offer. Not once more. Manufacturer Response:Thank you for your feedback. Quick, cool, appear stunning, fantastic aluminum case, exact similar height as DVD Case - perfect for storing vertically on shelf subsequent to DVDs. Really Bright Blue LED. Bought 3 of these more than the last month - as I've filled them with media (HD Movies, music, etc) I'm migrating my DVD collection over to these drives for my house theater. The issue I just found - that is excellent! is this enclosure is precisely the same height as a DVD Case -- Vertically, they fit on a DVD shelf just like a DVD would. Wonderful!

according to the model number, the drive is truly an Hitachi Deskstar HDT721010SLA360 1TB drive rated at above 91MB/s average read. Which is on par with the previously fastest Samsung F1 1TB drive. Drive is relatively quiet. Warm to the touch through operation but not out of manage hot. The initially drive came in DOA (only purpose why i gave it a four egg rather of five), it wouldn't spin up. RMAed it Newegg and got a replacement which functions just as it suppose to. HDD DOA doesn't take place typically but it does happen from time to time. I"d envision it's not Fantom's fault, but rather Hitachi's good quality manage. only 16MB cache compare to samsung F1's 32mb, and no Native Command Queing; which "may" possibly lag a bit for the duration of heavy random read, random seek operation compare to the F1. you can quickly take this drive out and use it as a fairly fast internal OS drive, or utilize the external eSATA interface, take into account its regular read is rated at above 91MB/s (FYI fastest 1.5TB seagate is rated at above 99MB/s, and raptor 300GB is rated at above 101MB/s). But the lack of cache and NCQ can from time to time influence the performance a little. so far fairly pleased with the drive on initial impression, but will update as time goes to see if it will withstand the test of time. btw if anyone knows what the difference among this drive (GF1000EU) and the other (GF1000EU16), please let us know. as far as i can tell, they both use the identical internal Hitachi drive HDT721010SLA360.

Drive size and cost is great. I've heard excellent issues about Fantom Drives When I first started utilizing the drive, it struck me strange how noisy it was. Following reading by way of other reviews, I've noticed comments ranging from noise drive to "wonderfully quiet". Does any person else have this problem?

The drive was inexpensive. I suppose that the purpose it is so affordable that it has a brief shelf life. I purchased this drive about six months ago. I worked fine until I moved. I packed the drive in padding and it was not broken in any way. I plugged it in and while the power light turns on, the drive is not being recognized by any of my computers. I am going to have to spend a lot more dollars than if I bought a much more pricey drive on data recovery. I am aware that Fantom will replace the drive, but a lot more significant to me is the data that i lost which they will not recover without charging me extra cash. That's okay. I'll invest my funds on organizations that make items that don't fail. Manufacturer Response:We are sorry to hear your unit was damaged for the duration of your move. A lot of storage for a little of a value. Got this as the back up drive, ignoring the evaluations thinking that the WD hard drive in it has to be superior, so if anything would go negative it would be an enclosure. Right after having it for more than a year and putting all my irreplaceable data on there, the drive just decides to die a single day, all i hear are crickets (the needle swapping over the disks) but the computer would only recognize a mass storage device connected but won't be in a position to access it. Tried swapping the boards on the hds (i just occurred to have an identical hd by accident) and that didn't assist. Opening the hd itself will be the last case scenario(after the recovery firms tell me they can't do anything with it). WD Caviar Green has been proving itself to be a piece of junk, all the businesses have low-cost lines of product caviar green happens to be 1 of the WD's. The enclosure is nevertheless very good, i pulled out the broken HD and stuck the additional one particular i had inside. Seems to be working fine so far. we'll see how long it lasts. the only difference among the drives is that the original 1 had 16mb cache and the replacement a single has 8mb, not like it matters to the enclosure thought.

Uhhh, it's a nice color and has a pretty blue light. This factor sounds like a concrete mixer. It makes a metallic rapping noise on power up or down, knocks on data access and appears to just knock for it's own amusement when it isn't getting accessed. I assume it supposed to flash as the drive is accessed and glow bright on access only. That's a guess although. I spoke to tech assistance and they didn't know about the light. I don't care about the light but is it indicating constant drive access?Tech assistance reluctantly recommended I return the unit for repair or replacement. They will look at it and see if I am appropriate in that it is poor. I have to spend shipping. This warranty business with difficult drives has me concerned regardless of the manufacturer. If you have a bunch of data on the drive and return it are you ever certain you wiped it enough? If the unit is genuinely poor you might not be able to wipe the drive. In that case perhaps you have all sorts of private information left wide open for id theft. Manufacturer Response:Thank you for your feedback Ted. You do bring up a valid point that numerous don't consider when they return their difficult disks to the manufacturer. In some situations your information could still be present on the tough disk right after it has failed. In these instances there are usually methods to recover the data, but that sort of service can be quite costly. An enterprising identity thief might contemplate a failed challenging disk to be a precious source of private data, but they would not be able to recover that data with out extremely specialized equipment and instruction. This, has been known to happen with some corporate targets, but is very uncommon, we also know of no instances exactly where a consumer's private data was targeted by such an attack. Regardless, it is suggested that you use encryption software of some sort if you are going to shop private data on any difficult disk.
