Comment:
- eSATA, USB interfaces- Nice, powerful case - No eSATA cable, but its not difficult to go buy one particular I'm very content with this. I've had it for about 4 months and nevertheless going fantastic with no signs of failing. LED light in the front isn't terribly vibrant. eSATA is so a lot quicker, but usb isnt all that negative. Barely gets warm even below intense use. Shows 931 GB when formatted which is to be expected. I will prolly pick up a different one of these soon.

I got it for a really excellent price tag ๚ after rebates. Has eSATA and USB connection which is fantastic. Tons of storage. Good design. Content with transfer speeds from both USB and eSATA. I DID obtain my rebate =). I got a Western Digital tough drive inside. Somewhat disappointing eSATA speed. It is at times slower than USB. Highest I ever reached was 68 MB/s. Doesn't detect eSATA connection right after startup. Your motherboard have to be HOTSWAP capable! Hard drive is loud when accessing/ transferring information. My internal Seagate is super quiet. I use SATA to eSATA cable. Vista Ultimate SP1 32 bit. Gigabyte P35 DS3L mobo.

-Excellent storage to Price ratio-Fairly quiet -Died immediately after a few months I now nearly usually go for the drive with the ideal critiques, as long as it falls inside my wants for a given project. Read the critiques, and establish if the individual knows what they are talking about. Compare as numerous as you have time to, and generally make informed decisions. Particularly for difficult drives, but for most everything else too.

Comment:
None. 6 failures inside the first year. 6 units failed inside the initial year due to faulty controller units. This is a identified problem on most forums and the corporation refused to honor warranty when I told them Western Digital drive was very good but their controller board was poor. Instead of honoring warranty, I was told to send in drives and I would be charged a service fee. Do not buy these units until they operate out the bad controller board problems. 6 TB of information was nearly lost, but I was fortunate to read about bad controller boards and acted to save my data. The WD dirves are not negative just the "Chinese Produced" controller they use. Joe is the superviser and has quite little expertise in customer service. In no way once more will I purchase from Fantom Drives. It is a smaller business that tried to cover up a well known issue about high failure rate on all their units. I read about high failure rate on the 1.5TB model as nicely but stayed away. I am glad I did. Do your self a favor and look else exactly where. I was lucky but you could not be. Extremely disppointed with Fantom Drives. They will need to take responsibilty for the "Known Issue" of bad controller boards or additional people will have failures. They did not honor the mail in rebate. I met with excuse immediately after excuse when I tried to adhere to up. I never ever received any of the rebates even although my paperwork was ideal. I just gave up immediately after four months. I wish I could return all 6 units for refund or at least back charge my credit card. BUYER BEWARE. HORRIBLE Item. Manufacturer Response:Anonymous,Thank you for your feedback, on the other hand we need to state, for the record that there is no identified issue with the controller board on this or any other Fantom Drives product. A Google search of "Fantom Drives Controller" returns no hits from any websites or forums that could recommend a rumor of defective controller boards.Nevertheless, as a part of our ongoing commitment to strengthen the high quality of our product offerings we would be pleased to examine any of your claims in greater detail. Please make contact with us at customercare@fantomdrives.com with details about your inquiries and claims and we will see what can be done.

Has been 100% dependable for me for over a year, and it gets utilized pretty much each day. The sturdy housing contains a slot for a laptop lock, which is a good function. Could be quieter and the blue LED is a little too bright, but these are smaller complaints. I haven't used the eSATA yet, so I can't comment on that.

Metal case feels really sturdy, and seems to do a good job of dissipating heat. Nice and slim. Quiet. Has worked effectively for the a lot more than six months I've owned it. Fantastic value. 1 massive one particular for me: the vibrant blue LED light is too vibrant. It's so vibrant I'm knocking an egg off the rating. I can compare it to my older Seagate external HDD which has a similar blue light, but isn't so vivid it keeps me awake. I usually have to shut down the HDD before I go to bed due to this. A bit of masking tape would possibly "fix" the LED, but it's such a fundamental factor to be incorrect that I nevertheless have to knock an egg off.

The Fantom Drive so far has made fantastic for my backups and for those on the fence about challenging drives compatible with the Nintendo Wii this 1 is compatible. Also with the recent NTFS added to MPLAYER for the Wii I would recommend 1 of these for turning the Wii into a media center. The Fantom Drive also is quiet. My purchase created me a believer in Fantom. I don't truly have any cons New Egg got the drive to me in 3 days. The refund took close to 6 weeks, but that was expected. I program to buy yet another drive here shortly most likely inside the next 6 weeks. Namely I need a secondary backup drive for my desktop and I figure I'll see how the drive works under constant use (seems to be fine under continuous use with the Wii as I use it as my media center at present.)

1TB fot ๥.USB2. and SATA not 7200rpm but expected. 1)DOA..can we check if it's the enclosure or the harddrive DOA? ..blame WD for poor HD.2)green drive..it's the claim of WD...since it runs min 5400rpm and could go quicker up to 7200....it's variable speed. The enclosure possibly use a lot of energy...so it's type of pointlessthree)usb speed...in all probability your other usb port on your laptop or computer or laptop is 1...that's why you got 1. speed.I got two. port and got no dilemma transferring at 2. speed... but I end up utilizing esata cable for faster and additional reliable speed.4)blue led...just put a black tape more than.5)the thing did safe my life a few time...just recovered 200G of C drive from 1 hour recover from ghost image.BTW, my c drive has raid , so recover is quicker than single drive.6)loss information on external drive. just like your internal drive, if you use it for information storage rather than backup, you need to backup your external information! Not suppose to put 1TB on it and feel it's secure...dah? get a second 1 to mirror it!

Wonderful drive, no troubles. eSATA speeds around 60MB/sec... not the theoritical values listed by any implies (which was to be expected) but more than triple my USB 2 speeds. Rather drive mainly. Has a solid feel. Mine came in a sleek silver casing, looks incredibly nice. Reasonable amount of space for air movement. The drive from time to time "kicks up" and makes an odd noise; certainly most harddrives get louder when accessing information, but this is like no other noise from a harddrive I have heard prior to, but it is brief and doesn't appear to be affecting efficiency... at least it has a 1 year warranty if that noise becomes an issue.

Storage size was excellent, product size great, and price was fantastic (still waiting on rebate though which I've heard is a long method sometimes). Plugged in and worked correct away with Ubuntu 9.04 and XP. Total of 931.4 GB of space when formatted. Blue light is a little annoying due to brightness, but an straightforward fix if it isn't for you. Only con is when working with USB to transfer files it is only transferring at about two.five-three. MB/s. Best speed with USB has been five.2MB/s when transferring from an additional portable HD to the Fantom drive. I may well have to break down and get the eSATA cable and express card for my laptop in order to get excellent transfer speed....

high capacity, dual interface, looks good I had some compatibility issues with the eSATA interface and my laptop PCMCIA card eSATA adapter card (Vantec). The eSATA interface worked fine with the SATA port on my desktop but did not perform with the laptop, which was really disappointing. Also, the drive likes to make annoying clicking sounds just about every so frequently. Superior for backup, which is what I use if for, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're organizing on accessing it generally or you want to use the eSATA with a laptop adapter card. Extremely noisy drive (since day 1) when writing, scratchy sounds that seem to resonate inside the box, audible various feet away, even with the background noise of a laptop or computer.Light use only, for time machine backups. Appears to have this drive inside: Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.B 1 TB Difficult DriveHas great ratings for that, so we'll see.It seems quiet compared to my other Fantom drive which has a WD inside. I guess what Fantom does is buys bulk drives from other producers and then just makes them external and resells them. Will let you know when I come across 1 with far more use. Great deal at this price if they are selling them under their own name for the cost shown in the link above!!

Terrific Cost for big storage at the time I purchased it. Immediately after getting the drive about three months it began losing connection to devices that I hooked it up to. This appears to be the drive as I've had this difficulty when transferring data on my computer, my ps3, and a pals personal computer. The data is not damaged but in the middle of a transfer it will just kind of 'blik out' of the connection and then the personal computer will register it once again just like it was just plugged in. I believe this to be a energy supply issue. Manufacturer Response:Please make contact with our support department so we can investigate your concern. -Very durable case-I located it to be reasonably quiet.-Runs cool with USB 2.-Basic Plug and Play access for non savvy-Looks amazing next to my other FD -USB port did not hold ANY cable tightly which often necessary to be checked. Not the case with my older Fantom Drives...-Energy Cable not the good 2 piece that shipped with my old drives.-Purchased 05񳏊 drive failed on 12ቯ񳏊 though my older drives up to three years old are still running. I actually, really liked Fantom Drives. Recommended them to every person. Good aluminum housing and competitive pricing. I have 3 others a two 300GB and one 500GB that have preformed flawlessly. This served as a backup/storage space for if my tower required space or was becoming reformatted. Sadly when the drive failed happened whilst my tower was being reformatted. I lost roughly 800+ GB of files. In attempt to recover files my PC store removed it from its housing to hook it directly to a SATA port they can send it to their major store to attempt recovery but it expenses roughly 跌 for them to try, they have devoted machines and software program there. Sadly this voided my warranty.Even though I prefer the looks of the new instances I come across the construct top quality of the older drives appears superior. Plugs fit greater, aluminum seems to be less prone to scratching. I seriously did like this drive but, I feel I may well have to try yet another brand for my 1 or 2TB replacement drive.

It does what it is suppose to do although. Drive is OK for the cash but a bit bulky and that constant blue light will drive you crazy. By no means got the rebate either even although I followed the rules to the letter. Last email from rebate people today stated that they 'never received the paperwork'. Why am I not surpised? Final time I ever get an item from newegg with a rebate, been burned more than when and as newegg says, it's not their program so they are not responsible. Too bad to, as the rebates typically make the eggs items far more inexpensive so most of my purchases will be elsewhere from now on. Manufacturer Response:Thank you for your feedback. Please get in touch with us at 1齠ꍈ-DISK񢠓) and we will get the sorted out for you ASAP. Terrific case, fast performer. She died following only 4 months of service... I had this connected to my Tivo3, and it worked terrific until last night. The drives NOT formatted to work with a Tivo but the conversion isn't difficult if you're handy with PC hardware. I did notice the it thrashed alot, particularly throughout HD recordings. Probably wants a larger cache. Anyway, I wore the poor factor out apparently. Manufacturer Response:We regret the inconvenience. It is often a disappointment when a drive fails. It appears your unit is nonetheless under warranty. If you haven't already done so, please go to our website and fill out an RMA on the net form so we could repair/replace your drive for you.
