Fractal Design Array R2 Black Mini ITX Storage Computer Case 1X2.5INT 6X3.5INT 140MM Fan 300W PSU
Cons:Not easy to change air filter
Pros:Stylish, minimalist, tons of drive bays Comment:
Two things attracted me to this case - it's minimalist styling and large drive count (in a small case). Nothing else detracted from those pros.I fit an Intel DH61DL mITX board inside with a G530 on board and two drives (to start). The included PSU, drive cage, and filter fit well and fasten securely. Rubber mounts for each drive as well as on the drive cage are appreciated. Large, quiet, well supplied fan intakes on the sides at the front. Front panel consists only of a backlit power button. Brushed black aluminum looks great. No sharp edges, screw holes consistent, front panel and fan leads reach anywhere in the case.Only minus (and a small one) is that almost complete disassembly of the case is required to clean the air filter. But since this is a WHS box for relatives, and the box is out of the way, that won't have to happen often, and it'll be by me.I'm getting two more. |

Fractal Design Array R2 Black Mini ITX Storage Computer Case 1X2.5INT 6X3.5INT 140MM Fan 300W PSU
Cons:- Price- Fasteners- HDD Cage & Power Supply Location
Pros:- Small Form Factor- Beautiful Finish- 6 - 3.5 Bays + 1 - 2.5 "Bay" Comment:
I bought this case for my home NAS server. The main selling point was the amount of drives it could hold. It can hold 6 - 3.5 HDD in the cage, and you can mount a 2.5 on the bottom of the cage (SSD).First off, the quality is excellent. Awesome brushed black aluminum outside. All the fasteners are countersunk so nothing protrudes. Unfortunatly the trade off for all those HDD's in there is space. There isn't much left for anything. The cage itself is difficult to get in with the PS attached. It can be done, but it's a bastard.Due to the location of the cage & the PS the drives power & sata cables on 2 of the drives will but up against the PS. Like I said, it's tight. The cooling could be better, but with that many drives what can you do. They all operate well within the heat spec for the drives. The front fan is audiable in a quiet room, so if you have this out in your living room you might hear it.I'll be swapping out the Fan for one of my own, I'm, guessing that will eliminate the noise.Overall, this is a must have if you want alot of drives in your enclosure. |
This is the perfect case for a home server or media box. It is one of the few mitx cases that will hold 6 HDDs plus an SSD. It looks great sitting out on a tv/entertainment stand and most people actually ask me "what kind of audio receiver is that?" I ordered a Noctua 140mm fan to replace the stock one, but it turns out the stock one is high quality and very quiet. I had to use a small washer as a shim under the hard drive cage so that the cage wouldn't hit my raid card.
