* Quite fast* Economical* Low power consumption * Style flawEither the SandForce controller or the drive firmware seems to have a fundamental style flaw that causes reliability difficulties with some BIOSes. Apparently the startup time for the SSD lengthens as the drive is used, at some point preventing the BIOS from detecting it on boot up (we're talking fractions of a second right here most likely, but it's adequate). There is no workaround apart from moving the drive to a larger SATA port quantity, which is not usually feasible and is actually only a temporary measure until it is no longer detected there either. The manufacturer also confirms that there are compatibility issues with the drive. It's probable that this bug impacts ALL SandForce based SSDs. Confirmed not compatible with P150HMx series motherboards in the Clevo P150HM/P150HM1 laptops with most up-to-date BIOS and newest SSD firmware as of 4ቦ񳏋. Drive returned for replacement and replacement returned for total refund with totally free shipping on the final replacement (different brand) (thanks a bunch newegg!)For users affected by compatibility troubles due to this design flaw, the Samsung 470 series MZ-5PA128 is a good replacement. The controller is Samsung proprietary (not SandForce) and the specs are more rapidly than the intel drives and additional or much less on par with the SandForce drives. It's the drive I bought to replace the Phoenix Pro.Btw, if G.Skill decides to reply, it had better not be an apology, a request to post on the assistance forum, or a suggestion for an RMA. I have already carried out these issues and I'm certain everybody is tired of studying apologies in the comments. If G.Ability decides to reply, make it an explanation of the particular challenge from an engineer that's not muddled up by PR or client help hype. Manufacturer Response:.Dear ClientWe are sorry to hear you had troubles with the drive. Very extremely fast drive. Installed in my new Dell XPS 17 3D laptop. (laptop has area for 2 drives). Uncomplicated to upgrade firmware to most up-to-date. Can not upgrade firmware on AMD boards. sucks, truly. truly makes no sense. Quite, quite quick. Tends to make this laptop just scream. I wish it were larger now as my 2nd "slow" 7200 rpm drive is slowing down the system. I'll need to have a different drive now. :)

I wrote an earlier, glowing assessment... Guess that nonetheless applies when it functions. Its dead now.Even though Newegg has accomplished nothing wrong here, prospective purchasers require to be conscious that this is apparently a rather sub-par piece of gear (or atleast immature) and they may well need to have to go by the producer for an RMA, which so far, has not been a enjoyable procedure. The drive suddenly stopped operating after 38 days of ownership. Would only no longer be recognized on any motherboard I tested it on. Because that is previous the 30 day window Newegg gives you I had to send it back to G.Ability for RMA.Sadly G.Ability's RMA procedure is rather poor. The drive was sent in more than three weeks ago, and I've heard absolutely nothing. RMA# UR2103779I have confirmation that the package was delivered on Nov 11th, it is now 11ቴ, pretty much two complete business weeks later and not even an e-mail saying they received it. Oh yeah, poor move creating your customers pay shipping on your defective gear by the way... Manufacturer Response:.Dear ClientWe apologize for the inconvenience. Excelent speeds in my highend system. it gets a 7.7 in windows 7 utilmate 64bit after I set up all the tweaks such as altering the pagefile, indexing, and temporary net files to 4 disk raid zero array. The 1st drive I received would drop in and out of detection by the bios on a EVGA X58 4x classified motherboard. So I RMAed it to new egg and the second one particular has not given me any trouble over the final 3 months. Sucks I had to RMA it but I had an abunance of other challenging drives to load my OS to so no biggie. Make confident you load the OS with bios settings for AHCI enabled. I had to disconect all other drives allow AHCI load OS, then connect the other five drives and configure raid by means of the OS to get this drive to perform correctly. AHCI stands for Advanced Hardware Compatability Interface and is critical to this drive working properly. Moreover the TRIM option will not be readily available if you do not use AHCI bios settings. Hope this helped some of you guys, It is a fantastic drive, excellent luck.

Incredibly fast and silent. -1 egg because my first arrived DOA but had a replacement inside a week and it performs excellent. Each newegg (as always) and g.skill were excellent with the return. The slow element was obtaining it shipped from here on the east coast to California (wish RMAs could go someplace closer). I'm delighted with the speed. 120GB appears fine for the C drive and I have my old challenging drive for mass storage. These factors are the wave of the future, especially as they get more affordable. What suprised me is how significantly I like the quiet of these points. No harddrive thrash loading up or constant whine (my D drive sleeps most of the time). Now if I can just get rid of a handful of fans. Manufacturer Response:.Dear ConsumerThank you for your G.Skill buy and critique. We are sorry to hear the initially one particular was poor, but glad to hear the second is performing effectively. its faster than the mechanical. Its smaller generates less heat. Other than the cons it performs fine Sandforce is giving really small support to the organizations that carry their solutions. Prepare to e mail firm and ask why doesn't it read/ write at 200+ mbs. Why does the drive shed efficiency immediately after a week. Why is their no computer software for resetting the drive. How do i enable ACHI on MOBO. Why is AMD chipset read/write not the identical as intel chipset. Analysis it oneself before you get. Go more than to motherboards/ or ssds website (there are tiny sections referred to as forums) to get all the info just before you pick up that credit card. Just a thought. Cease benchmarking the items because it causes them to shed efficiency. I you are attempting to optimize it dont run a benchmark. each and every time you run a benchmark right after you adjust a thing = you dirty the nand cells. in which leads to slower performance. Prior to installing do a secure erase on the drive before you install windows. DO YOUR Investigation Before Purchasing SEE CONS. If you do not have some computer system know-how or do not like to devote days researching. Then this product is not for you. Intel SSDs at-least have the software program to retain the drives overall performance up. Quick. This drive was suggested by a tech buddy mainly because of the SandForce controller. Installed simple and runs devoid of a hitch below Ubuntu ten.04 (Lucid Lynx). I have verified TRIM is working. Read and write speeds report at well more than 200MB/sec (Last benchmark was: Avg read = 271.9MB/s) None that dont also apply to all other SSD's. -1 star only since I dont give five stars unless something is out of its league ("wow element"). Immediately after reading about TRIM, I am not positive they have issues fairly optimized yet for drive lifestyle expectancy. I feel SSD organizations still have some operate to do in figuring out the ideal algorithm for this. In a nutshell, SSD is nonetheless fairly new. Manufacturer Response:.Dear CustomerThank you for your G.Skill buy and critique. Glad to hear the SSD is operating properly in your machine. The speeds for this drive are second to none, and if two are employed in RAID , the efficiency will be more than double. Easy setup with a clean install of Windows 7 -64 bit. I just set my BIOS to AHCI, then let Windows 7 do its factor. No added driver necessary. Functions fine with the default power saving settings. Recovers from sleep mode perfectly. I have not changed any of the default Windows settings but. Will do some checking to see if TRIM is enabled and defrag is disabled as suggested for SSDs. Have only had it for 5 days. When Setup is loading Windows, there is no drive noise, so you believe nothing is happening for extended periods. The drive light may well flicker so rapidly you don't notice it. I restarted the method once when I didn't have to. Just be patient. The adapter that is supposed to allow you to put this tiny drive into a regular 3.5 inch HDD bay did not operate with my case. Not a massive dilemma, given that you can put an SSD anywhere. Lack of heat from this SSD combined with Windows 7 power management of my many difficult drives suggests that my formerly rather warm laptop or computer can no longer be applied to heat my workplace!I also purchased a 250G WD challenging drive on sale to be the backup for my SSD. I use Casper to backup automatically. If the SSD fails, I'll just boot from the backup drive and carry on at lowered speed until a replacement SSD arrives.I paid 赛 for this SSD in the course of the Black Friday sale. Shopping at Newegg is like gambling, you gotta know when to spot your bets! Watch your desired items everyday for value changes. Be patient and wait for the sales if achievable.

Lowest was my CPU at 7.5 (Q9650) and my RAM at 7.5 Ƙ GB Corsair Dominator GT's). Will be finding more of these factors as costs come down. It's blazingly quick, at least compared to a traditional hdd setup. I don't have experience with any other brand of SSD, so I can't speak on that matter. Nonetheless, if xBench tells me something, it has exceptional performance, specially in random reads.I got it on Black Friday for 赔, so it was priced really excellently as effectively. My initially drive was horrendously dysfunctional. Specifics are below.I had some initial difficulty getting my laptop to recognize the drive at all, even externally, each in OSX and Windows. Linux did the trick, although. Following install, I was amazed by the speed of the drive, but speedily noticed some fairly severe troubles. My laptop or computer would randomly hang - forcing me to tricky-shutdown (at initial I believed it was negative RAM) And whenever my laptop or computer was turned off - particularly by a difficult-shutdown - the EFI would be unable to load the kernel. And, on occasion, it would become completely unbootable. As it turns out, my difficulties were arising from an invalid node structure. I had to boot from an external and rebuild the filesystem (with Disk Warrior, it's an excellent product) a couple of instances.Ultimately, though, I decided enough was enough and RMAd the issue. The new drive didn't have any of those troubles, but was substantially slower (like three or four occasions) for the 1st handful of weeks. It's sped up to the speed of the original over time, nonetheless, and has given that been difficulty free.I clearly had troubles, but truthfully I think this is far more indicative of the newness of the technology than it is an indictment on Gskill

This is a Incredibly fast drive, a big step up in efficiency from my older 5400rpm laptop tough drive. Regrettably this drive does not sleep effectively with my 2009 13" MacBook Pro (as of ten Dec 2010). If the machine goes to sleep, upon wakeup almost everything freezes and a tricky reboot is the only way to remedy the issue. This appears to be a issue with Sandforce 1200 based drives in general, and is not isolated to this G-Skill drive. The difficulty happened both with the original (v3.1) firmware shipped with the drive and also after downgrading to a prior version (v2.1a). Hopefully a future firmware update will be able to address this issue, due to the fact otherwise this is an outstanding drive. If it slept appropriately I wouldn't hesitate to give it a five egg review. As it stands, I have returned the drive and purchased an Intel X25-M as an alternative. Rapid and good though it operates. These drives have a super high failure rate and gskill need to do a recall. I purchased this and it worked good for a while (about 6 weeks, just extended enough to scratch any hope of a refund) then 1 day, I attempt to boot up my personal computer only to locate out the device can not be recognized. Thinking maybe the challenge was with my motherboard, I tried slapping this device into a different motherboard, just to see if the other motherboard's bios would recognize it. It did not. I went to my brother's house and tried it in his personal computer-- same outcome. RMAs get expensive when you have to pay for shipping and loosing all your information can be a pain also. This thing is quickly and quiet! -1 egg mainly because my initially arrived DOA but had a replacement inside a week and it works great. Both newegg (as always) and g.skill were good with the return. The slow component was acquiring it shipped from the east coast to California (wish RMAs could go someplace closer). Upgraded from XP to Windows7 utilizing this as my new main drive and it worked excellent. I expected genuinely good install, boot and load instances and it absolutely has that but I'm suprised just how substantially I appreciate how quiet it is (silent, actually). My old XP drive is there for video storage, and so on. but sleeps most of the time. 120 GB seems a lot major as my C drive.SSDs are undoubtedly the wave of the future, specially as they get less costly and even quicker. Manufacturer Response:.Dear ClientThank you for your G.Skill invest in and review. We are sorry to hear the 1st 1 was poor, but glad to hear the second is performing well.
