GIGABYTE Radeon HD 4870 GV-R487D5-1GD Video Card
Cons:- LOUD! The fan never seems to stop spinning at 100%- Heat is not vented out of the system- Gigabyte tech support. No number to call, and from past experience you can end up waiting a week to get a response.
Pros:- Price per Performance- 1 gig of ram |
This is one extremely loud card. I mean it's one thing to be loud when I'm doing something intensive like playing a game, but it doesn't need to be loud when I'm working on a word document!Note: I'm comparing the noise level to a system that is all but silent and it has a 8800 GTS 512 in it.I got this because the price, at the time, was good and I normally equate Gigabyte with reliable stuff. The one thing that did slip my mind, which as kind of turned me off Gigabyte, is their tech support, which is all done via email and can take weeks to resolve an issue if it's not resolved right away.I suppose its not a bad card, but due to the noise and the "venting-of-heat-into-the-case" issue, and the, what I call, sub-par tech support I would never buy this card again.Note: only sub-par because of the method in which it is done. If they had a tech support phone number to call thing may be different.
