These drives are fast, particularly in a raid five. I built out my new server for media content (I ripped my DVD collection to make it less difficult to view them) and I can effortlessly stream something more than my gig-e network to my living room media center. No cons so far. I purchased eight of these drives, one was broken in shipping but I had the new 1 in 4 days, newegg's returns are fast and uncomplicated. So far 3 months and no drive errors or slowdowns. I'd happily obtain a different set of 8 to do the similar thing once again, especially given that the value has dropped given that february. |

Very good look and style. Ample storage space as properly as a breeze to set drive partitions. Formatted and zeroed 50x no errors. Fantastic for back up and for substantial scale portability. LED Hitachi logo flashes to relate usage. Strong Product, fantastic cost, Does have a tendency to get warm with higher usage. (that was soon after loading a 180g back up file in beneath 24 hours so your final results might quite. Seems to take the jostling of transport nicely despite the fact that I do add protection to do so, good way to carry around your large data files with ease. |

- price tag per storage size. Got it when Newegg supplied promotion code ( under ninety ) - Runs hot. When writing over 1TB information on it, the disk temperature got up to about 59 C and remained near 56 C when left idle for over 10min. ( My primary internal HD runs about 30 C at most. Cooler ones run at 20 C )- No fan to cool the drive in the case- Everest Reports that the disk inside is Hitachi HDS722020ALA330 and Newegg feedback for this drive shows over 20% with 1 egg rating. I hope this drive won't die in handful of weeks as other individuals have knowledgeable.- Blinking logo is way as well bright- loud compared to other external tough drive- the base stand to maintain it vertical is also small to keep the disk from accidentally tipping over. Keeping it horizontal contributes to raised temperature. Out of the box, it's formatted to FAT32. I repartitioned and rapid formatted it to NTFS.If placed on really hard surface, like on best of a desk, it's loud. Spot it on leading of something that would absorb vibration, like rubber mat. Preserve it vertical to allow a lot more surface for passive cooling. The transfer speed when writing about 1TB data was 29.six MB/Sec on the typical. High temperature is a single of the aspects that lead to early demise of HDs. If the temperature remains higher, I may well void the warranty and take out the disk and use an additional vendor's USB connector I have laying around... or place inside my desktop. |

2TB, decent transfer speed, it worked Exterior of the case gathers & holds dust quite speedily & effortlessly. You wont be in a position to wipe it off without a damp cloth. The drive only lasted 1 year & two months, never ever been dropped, spent most of its time stationary (rarely moved), handled with care, no power surges or spikes, drive had 962GB free of charge at the time of failure. Was utilized heavily I weigh reliability highly. This unit died way as well soon for my requirements. |

Worked when I received it. I have had it for a tiny over a month but only utilised it for about 4 to five hours. Most of that was just transferring data to it. Made the error of deleting the data from my most important drive (to make room) following I transferred it to this one. Dead right after 5 hours of use. Be careful of the good testimonials as they likely have not had the drive that extended. I doubt any individual will get additional than one hundred hours use out of it. Too many currently reporting the drive dieing right after a quite short time. Never had a drive die on me ahead of and I have drives that are nicely over ten years old. 1st time I purchased a cheap drive. In my sincere opinion, you would be superior off shopping for a drive that price twice as substantially that will final you for a handful of years at least. |

Plug, play, format, use. Drive inside is Hitachi HDS722020ALA330. Saving all my Recorded Television films to it. If it fails, I'll crack it, by way of away the situation and controller card like on my final WD external and mount it in an external situation. None so far On very first use I believed "This is the noisiest drive...clunk, clank, click", then I noticed that I had set it on a thin masonite shelf that acted like a drum head. Set it on a scrap of carpet and tada...silence. |

Had the item for about four months. No issues till (read below) Really poor ventilation. The enclosure failed following four months. Pulled the drive out of the enclosure and place it into yet another empty 1 i had about making use of the very same hookups and worked perfectly. There is most likely some manufacturing fault with the circuitry on the conector side of points. Get a different drive. |

It goes to sleep when not in use. So far, no errors. I transfered files, did a verify disk and no issues. (FYI-Common HD guidance - for any individual purchasing any challenging drive - examine for errors initial! So numerous of these substantial drives ship with errors. Don't just cut and paste, or move....examine the disc for errors 1st, then don't rely on it if it passes. constantly have a proper backup. I can pretty much promise you that your tricky drive will fail right after a though.). Back to this drive - these are the pros - the drive hasn't failed and the power savings is a bonus. I bought various 2 tb drives from hitachi final year (internal). I feel I bought about 7 or 8 total for a home server setup. They had been the greatest drives I have ever applied. So, I purchased 3 of these with no trying any out. I had so a lot faith in Hitachi from the internal drives, I figured this would just be 1 of individuals wonderful internal drives in the situation.....NOPE.....this is a distinct challenging drive. I reside in a condo, and I am NOT LYING, I CAN HEAR THIS Hard DRIVE Anywhere IN THE CONDO IF I AM TRANSFERING FILES. THAT IS Honest TRUTH. I will not obtain any longer of these ever. Even as I kind this the only factor I hear is....GRIND, GRIND, GRIND, GRIND.....GRIND, GRIND, GRIND, GRIND....(It pauses soon after every 7 grinds or so). TORTURE!! Attempt sleeping with one of these in your space NO SLEEP WITH OWNERSHIP OF A single OF THESE! Hitatchi was on such a fantastic role, since their introduction of the amazing hard drives last year. Now, they spit these out. I cannot believe they are SO LOUD! I am just going to use them as offsite backups, due to the fact I PERSONALLY Can\'t STAND THE NOISE. Even although the 3 challenging drives I purchased have not failed, I can not give this anymore stars than one (and I would give stars..oops eggs...if it was attainable.). Way as well noisy. Noise == no egg. |

Shuts off when not in use. No power switch to worry about doesn't stack vertically effortlessly I read a lot of negative critiques on these drives. At property I've standardized around them for my media center, backups and shared storage. I have four 1TB in action with a different 3 as backups/standby (one becoming a 2 TB).Never ever an issue with the drives or enclosures.People today forget that drives are mechanical and just like it's achievable that a new car or truck breaks down the second you drive it off the lot, difficult drives can have difficulties too.I also have a sneaking suspicion that most people treat external drives like they're toys and forget how delicate they seriously are. |

Got it cheap when it was on promotion When writing over 1TB information, the disk temperature reached about 59 degrees C and even when idle it remained near 56. The disk inside the case is Hitachi HDS722020ALA330. The high temperature will almost certainly shorten the life of the HD. |

This XL version is improved more than the Easy Drive variant created by SimpleTech for Hitachi. Turbo USB is built-in, the energy adapter is redesigned. The drive performs quieter & runs a bit cooler. It runs cooler in the stand up mode (because it is passive convection cooled through the vent holes along the case edge), but make sure it doesnt fall over when it is running, or you could lose (ie, harm) this drive. Recall, it is not a notebook HDD plus it is ulta high capacity (ie, hence additional delicate). I had a likelihood to test this drive for a couple of days as nicely as compare it to the preceding model (ie, SimpleTech/Simple Drive II made variant). If you want a big backup drive for archive, it is hard to see why you wont like this one particular. Very good price point, huge, quiet & straightforward. Don\'t forget though that it is a big capacity running through USB 2, so calibrate your back up time expectations accordingly. |

I have zero problems with it. No more than heating or anything. nicely, except one particular smaller factor. When I tried to back up my pc, I would constantly get an "error" because the difficult drive would fall asleep with my laptop. I didn't figure out that till a few failed attempts. So to solve it, I just turned the sleep function off whenever I'm backing up my computer. It's nevertheless an hassle to switch the sleep function off and on. It has a power cord that plugs into the wall and a USB cord. You would consider it would stay on even when the laptop falls asleep but, no. Not a major deal just a small factor that I had to point out. General, I love it. Just don\'t forget to switch the sleep function on your laptop to "off" whenever you choose to back up. |

As good as other external hard drives. Price. Too noisy!!! it's like my old x486 Computer back in 1990's. and that blinking Hitachi logo, ugh! Annoying! This 1's not as appealing as other external difficult drives. They must have just supplied a tiny-dim-led light in front to see disk activity usage instead. If you're searching for a quieter one, i suggest you get Western Digital MyBook External Challenging Drives. A lot, much much more quieter than this Hitachi. And power saving too. Though it will be slow the 1st time it wakes up, otherwise, the western digital runs as quickly as usb two. can go. |

None None, if you want a hundred dollar paperweight. This drive failed after one particular week of light use. It was very hot to the touch even although it was in a well-ventilated area. I wasn't seriously expecting much for as cheap as it was, but I have to say I anticipated more than a week.
