HITACHI XL Desk 2TB 3.5" External Hard Drive
Comment:
This is the second Hitachi (deskstar) I have purchased. The 1st was bare oem, the second following a little research was this model. Each 7200rpm. Scrapped inexpensive case and utilized my own as I got this less costly than a bare drive. One is a backup the other is primary with more than 1Tb of media with problems on either drive. Dozens of 40-50Gb plus sustained writes with no a hitch SATA and USB3. People need to have to learn to money in on warranty. Manufacturing is not 100% and DOA does not warrant 1 star unless service is inferior. Half of these critiques (and newegg in general) seems to be end user dopes with no patience. If you want instant return service to make you happy, invest much more and go to Best Buy instead of mucking up product reviews at NewEgg. Insider tip dummies...there is only a handful of challenging disk, memory, and LCD manufacturers in the globe, service and name sells ;) None!

None, no built in software program. Performs properly. Makes use of Mini USB so all of my other peripherals are compatible when not in use. Just not a fan of mini USB. Preference though, not a con.

Pros:Good Price, Internal drive is an HDS723020BLA642
Comment:
The hard drive in side this is an HDS723020BLA642. Hitachi Deskstar 2TB SATA 6Gbit/sec 64MB cache. Cheaper than buying the hdd by itself, and you get a free enclosure, although that may not last too long. HDD itself is an excellent choice, scores better reviews than wd black 2TB! GOOD VALUE!

Cheap Click Click ... pc can't read or recognize I losted 1T+ information. Manufacturer Response:Thanks for your post. Drives could exhibit the clicking and knocking when they don't get adequate power to operate effectively. This is why the drive is supplied with the USB "Y" cable, as a lot of PCs can\'t supply enough power from just 1 USB port, and our shoppers have asked for a bus-powered resolution. Also, a lot of folks have numerous peripherals connected to the personal computer, and they too rob the laptop or computer of precious power. There is a power supply port for the optional AC adapter to be utilized. If you will need more support, please call HitachiGST Tech Support M-F 8AM to 6PM PST at 1.888.426.5214 and a technician will be happy to assist you.

Cost is appropriate.Fat 2T storage. Entirely plastic case.Bulky case compared to some of my other enclosures. Drive doesn't appear to get terribly hot immediately after extended use, so the plastic case ventilates greater than it looks. No power switch; drive enables itself right after each power & USB connected. This is slower than a power switch but appears to function OK.If you decide to take this apart for whatever cause (VOIDING the warranty), make certain you pry off the "Hitachi" front panel First! This reveals two hidden screws that let you very easily dismantle the case.USB interface works fine with other SATA HDDs.

Price vs. capacity vs. top quality can't be beat! High marks in all 3 places.Hitachi drives failures are the lowest in the business.Goes to sleep when not in use. Supplied USB cable is only about three feet lengthy. A 5 or six foot cable would greater. Some feel this drive is loud, as for mine, it is quiet most of the time. You can hear it when below high demand if you are listening for it.

I heard from a friend that this puppy had a SATA3 hard-drive with 64Mb cache hard drive inside the enclosure. It was true for me! So I got this 2Tb puppy for $74.99, that's cheaper than buying a real 2Tb SATA3 64Mb cache hard-drive.

Runs Quiet and was simple to set up. Works excellent with Mac OS as Time Machine backup. Not discovered any I like the truth there is no on off switch. Just plug it in and when it is required it is on and when it isn't needed it goes off.

New Egg delivered incredibly quick. I got this for strictly media file storage. It reformatted to my MAC like a pro. I will let everybody know how it handles information. So far so good no noise at all, just as quiet as my seagate. Not extremely pretty but if it works who cares ๟.99 for 2 tb who would have thought.

My first purchased drive was unfortunately DOA. I can only post first impressions but I'll post again with more information once I've used it for longer.

Works well, but it is only USB 2.0. The cable that comes with the unit. Just okay for your extra storage unit.

Fantastic bang for the buck. They sleep when not in use The shape of the instances make it difficult to stack them vertically (on top of every other) I have a couple of these 2TB drives and about 6 of the 1TB versions. All for house media use. By no means any troubles. Individuals forget thatɅ. Tough drives are mechanical and just like your new vehicle could break down on the very first day: difficult drives can die prematurely too.two. Though it is an external drive, they ought to be moved and touched and even looked at as little as probable.I've seen folks with external drive and they believe since it's external you can toss it about like a burrito.

HITACHI XL Desk 2TB 3.5" External Hard Drive
Cons:Cheap short usb cable included with the unit

Pros:Great Price and Capacity
Comment:
Got this on sale for 79.99, works well, even if it is only USB 2.0. The cable that comes with the unit is very short and cheap, but I had a bunch lying around that suited my purposes better. Excellent storage unit for laptop users.

Cons:No eSATA

Pros:Good price (specially with recent discount)Quick & QuietWorks perfectly out of the box

I was looking for an internal one to use with my dock after my crappy WD 1.5G failed. The price of this one was not higher than a 5900/5400 rpm of other brand, and I was happy with Hitachi always. I went with it and I believe it's a steal. The HDD is not noisy at all, and is really 7200rpm. There is a user friendly backup tool on it if you want.I'm happy :)

Bought it for almost half-price 2 weeks ago and it's worth every penny! It might look a little cheap, but it's Hitachi inside, so I'm not really worried for the long run.Already filled the 2 TB, no problems yet!

HITACHI XL Desk 2TB 3.5" External Hard Drive
Cons: 1 out of 2 DOA and the good one loses connection after Windows 7 x64 sleep mode.

Pros: Huge external storage at a reasonable price
Comment:
I guess as long as you can put up with no power switch it's a pretty good deal. I'm still waiting to receive the 2nd unit as 1 of 2 ordered was DOA. Then I can see if the 2nd has the same issue as the "good" unit or if it is a Win 7 issue. When Windows 7 x64 resumes from sleep mode it will not see the drive. Unplugging and replugging the USB cable won't fix it but unplugging the power does. Anybody else care to comment? I'm kind of surpised there isn't more reveiws.

I bought two of this Hard drive for every day use for a pretty good pric . One of them always has some connection problems, have to connect more than one time to get it work. I tried them on different laptops, shows same results. overall, its a very good hard drive for its price, and the internal hdd is deskstar7200rpm, i recommend it if it's on sale.
