HP Pavilion DV6-6180US I7-2670QM 2.2G 6GB 750GB 15.6IN WL W7HP 64BIT
Cons:-gunk can get stuck in metal seam-no backlit keyboard-installing new windows
Pros:-Nice Design-heat dissipation-power for price-available modifications-fixed/dynamic setting for GPU in bios (added over last summer due to dynamic switching issues. |
For $899.98 or sale, this is a real deal. The 6770m is essentially a slightly underclocked desktop 6670. The heat dissipation is good, the radeon card runs really cool. It's the CPU that heats up. But mine has been able to fold for at least an hour on all four cores without going below 2.3GHz (started out at 2.8 lol). From what I have heard, similar specced laptops will clock down to 1.7GHz or less quite quickly due to heat.Dunno if I just got lucky, but one of my ram modules has a thermal sensor. Now the bad. I can't seem to install my own retail windows. It needs the AHCI driver but won't accept the one from HP. I will be trying to install using a cd as opposed to usb at some point because I read that might be the issue. I will update this review when I do. I will also update with my success or failure in running linux/UNIX when I try that. It is known to have issues on switchable graphics.
