HTC Google Nexus 9 Tablet 64Bit NVIDIA Tegra K1 Android 5.0 8.9IN IPS LCD 16GB WiFi Black
Cons:Battery life not as statedDespite the speed, several Firefox tabs can still stall it
Pros:Runs pure AndroidAndroid 5.0 = fantasticPowerful enough to run any app fastFast 5 GHz networkingGood size - small enough to be portable, large enough for a great screen |
I bought this directly from Google when it first came out.I bought it for the surprising speed and the fact that it runs pure Android 5.0. Yes, it is fast. You won't notice any lag in doing anything on the OS or opening apps. However it doesn't take too many Firefox for Android tabs to slow it down considerably - it doesn't seem to handle web scripts well, although this could be a Firefox issue. Perhaps it's the surprising lack of memory - 2 GB is a small amount for a flagship device like this and some phones have more memory now.Android 5.0 looks amazing and works as well as it looks. It's very customizable and quite stable. I like that this is pure Android and I like that it will be updated first for a while - I have received 2 updates.Although I'm not using ac networking, 5 GHz wireless n is very fast. I measured speeds as fast as 129 Mb/s using iperf. The size is unusual. It sits in between too-small 7" tablets and too-large 10" tablets. It feels just right - lots of screen real estate yet not ungainly large. The screen is bright and clear with vivid colors. The only disappointment for me is that the battery life isn't quite what it could be. I highly doubt you could get the stated 9.5 hours of battery life. I typically use it for 3 hours or less one evening and about the same amount of time next evening and it will be down to 20% or less. It's acceptable but not extraordinary. There is a nice battery saver routine that kicks in at 15% - if you enable it, the screen gets dimmed, GUI effects get turned off, the screen refresh rate gets turned down and the processor downclocks. It buys you an extra hour of battery time. Nice touch, but I wish it wasn't needed.Overall this is an excellent tablet with great performance running a very nice OS.
