I am using this drive for weekly overnight backup purposes. It was very easy to set up once I checked the instructions to see which USB connector to connect (there's 2 to choose from). The software included for setting up a scheduled backup made it simple. DVD's were fine for backup, but remebering to do it was a pain. Liked it so much I bought one for my father.

Fumbling around to connect the Y-cable to two USB ports at the back of a desktop machine every time I want to use this drive is an annoyance factor I could do without.The only reason I puchased this drive was because it was on sale at a price too good to pass up. For storing backups, it is good enough. For daily use, I prefer the Western Digital MyPassport series of drives which are able to run off a single USB port.

This external 2.5 hard drive is perfect for laptops; Small, quiet and inexpensive. You wouldn't know it was running if you didn't get notification from your system or see the lights on the unit. You don't need external power to run the unit and comes with backup software and USB cord. The only thing else I could ask for is more memory but what do you expect for this price?

I bought this for my work laptop cause it only came with a 40 gig drive. i put it on the corporate card, so i didn't really pay for it. figured it was a good deal since it was 69 with a 10 dollar mail in rebate. THE REBATE FAILED. so i ended up paying the full 69 bux(79 after tax). still worth it. BTW, this is my first failed rebate, i've sent in over a dozen, but never to hitachi. oh well. Also, works with just a regular usb cable on my old laptop, should work with yours.I gave it two stars cause i don't trust the rebate, that's the only reason i wouldn't buy one again. other than that, it's actually worth it.
