We have been using this unit for almost 2 years for about 2 hours a week on Sundays in our church. It acts as a remote external two-key keyboard (Page Up and Page Down). Pressing both at once blacks the screen. Nothing worked until we discovered that our IBM laptop needed an IBM PS2 adapter cable to change the pin numbers in its PS2 socket to suit a standard external keyboard. If you hold a button down long enough it will finally change the slide at about a 50 ft range. If you want it to work 10 clicks out of 10, better not count on more than 25 ft. We got around the short range by moving the receiver forward and connecting a 25 ft PS2 extension cable back to the laptop. We couldn't have done this with the USB cable because USB devices by definition don't work with cables longer than about 6 ft. Because it is RF operated (not Infra Red) you don't have to point the little remote transmitters directly at the receiver. Remote transmitter battery life is still good after 2 ye
