Intel Xeon E3-1245 V2 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Server Processor
Cons:Expensive, can run rather warm
Pros:Fast, ECC memory support, hyper threading, graphics support |
Bought to use in my FreeNAS server I would have preferred the lower power Xeon E3, but did not want to spend even more on a quad core with hyper-threading CPU. This was also the lowest end model with integrated graphics, that I required as the motherboard has no graphics support. The CPU is certainly fast, however it would be better if it was easier to clock it down as it can get rather warm even with the 77W max TDP and not actually using the graphics core too much (I am using a Noctua low profile HSF).It is rather annoying that there is so little competition in the CPU market at the moment as you really do end up paying a premium for features that should just be standard (ECC memory support, hardware encryption acceleration etc).
