Kingston DataTraveler 101 Gen 2 8GB - Red
Cons:
-very dim activity LED-connector cover easy to catch on things
Pros: -good size-sturdy |
I'm pretty pleased with this purchase - I've been waiting a while for 8GB drives to hit a realistic price, and this one doesn't disappoint. The shape doesn't really appeal to me, but I have to admit it works well - it fits into crowded USB ports next to other "normal" sized plugs without issue, and the casing is very strong. I haven't tested the speed, but I have it formatted as NTFS to accept >4GB files and it seems quick enough. The few downsides: The activity LED, which is located in the round section where the cover swivels, is very dim and can only be seen from one side of the drive. So if the USB ports are "upside down" on your machine, you won't be able to see it (it was weeks before I noticed it was even there). As well, while the metal cover is pretty well designed, the edges are rough and they can catch or scratch things in your bag/pocket/etc. The lanyard holes are cut to the same finish; so if you use a plastic or fabric lanyard, you may want to file down the edges of these holes a bit so they don't abrade it as much.
