Kingwin 2.5" & 3.5" Hard Drive Protection Kit - Blue
Cons:Seems hard to store the skins without putting them on a hard drive first. Not enough space between stacked drives.
Pros:Silicone is high enough quality not to melt under standard HDD heat, well constructed for stacking HDDs ontop of each other during use. |
I have heard both that you should and should not use this as an external solution. I suspect that using a single HDD in one of these skins is probably okay, but having many active HDDs in a stack as I do may lead to shorter drive life. Though the silicone itself will not melt or damage the drive, I could imagine the silicone acting as an insulator and keeping the heat in rather than letting it escape. There is the window along the top which allows heat to escape, but if the drives are stacked, the studs on the bottom of the skins do not provide enough space for fans to remove heat from high-performance drives.
