Horrible upload speed from DVD
Comment:
Despite the fact that the specs on the drive state 16X for dvd, the actual speed is not even .25 of that. I have a lot of data dvds that I wanted to back up on my new computer (simple drag and drop, no software involved), so I thought that I would kill two birs with one stone by getting a Blu-Ray drive that is also DVD compatable... wrong, it is unbelievably slow at upload, so if you are thinking about using it to transfer, etc... forget it; I ended up using an external usb dvd drive which was more than 2X faster at the same specs... through USB!!! go figure. I contacted the manufacturer and they have no explanations and don't seem to care ... trust me, it is not my system, I have 6gb of ddr3 memory and a 3.2ghz quad core processor. I would not recommend this drive to anyone, would return it if I could, but delayed on building my computer so was past the 3mo window.

It doesn't work in Windows 7
Comment:
Ever since I installed this junk, it crashes my audio system, even when I uninstalled the crappy PowerDVD software which is also not Windows 7 compatible. I was never able to view a BD disk nor anything else. When I went to the LG web page, I couldn't even find the model listed, so I can't get any support. The Cyberlink page didn't help either because the PowerDVD versions are hardware-specific an this model doesn't appear there either. Now I see the unit is not available here anymore. What did I buy? Where is the support?

So far so good!
Comment:
(age 54) So far I have watched several HD DVD's without a hitch and burned a few disc's also. I have not watched any BD's yet so no report there. So right now I would advise anyone in the market to buy this player! It works just fine.

Works...but after two hours looking for drivers...
Comment:
1) yes it is not a BR burner. 2) where is the software or drivers for it? i am running windows 7 and it would not even read BR disks. i spent hours trying to get a driver for it. finally after downloading codex's from all over and updating my video driver on my pc (the pc is brand new!!using HDMI out)it worked.(Very Clear!) I would love to see LG provide a movie player with this unit as windows media player is buggy in windows 7. Just my two cents. burns dvd's quickly and very quietly. Blue LED on front is VERY annoying!!! I had to put tape on it.

THIS IS NOT A BLU-RAY BURNER!
Comment:
This is not a review. I'm just letting people know that it has been incorrectly listed as a Blu-Ray burner. It reads Blu-Ray, it DOES NOT write Blu-Ray.
