LSI LSIIBBU07 Battery Backup Unit for MegaRAID 8880EM2 RAID Controller Card
Cons:Had to RMA the first one
Pros:Speeds up the raid card tremendously Comment:
You really must have a BBU on any raid card. You'll get the benefit of write caching without worrying about corrupting your array. Now that I have one that works and charges properly this unit has made a dramatic impact on the speed of the array. Most raid cards are slower than molasses without a BBU! |

LSI LSIIBBU07 Battery Backup Unit for MegaRAID 8880EM2 RAID Controller Card
Cons:Takes a long time to reach initial charge
Pros:Easy to installProvides peace of mind Comment:
A BBU is truly a necessary component in any parity RAID setup. I use this with an LSI 9260-8i for RAID5. Take note that it's not ready to rumble out of the box. It takes some time to charge up once you install it and turn on your machine, so make sure you plan for that if you are under a deadline to get it into production. |
If your going to go laugh in the face of danger and run your PC sans UPS, you may as well still protect the 384TBs on the drives the associated controllers can handle.Seriously though, the cache settings of the raid cards may be disabled automatically if you're not running a BBU on them.
