Very good value RealTek chipset based gigabit Ethernet USB 3.0 adapter. I have bought this to configure a Chromebox as a UTM box (Unified Threat Management) at home to replace a normal router. This Ethernet adapter is now my internet link interface. It is running warm, but it does not seem to affect the functionality. Anyway the devices are in my cool basement which I hope will prevent any overheating.

I bought one for a friend who bought a 2014 mbp (MacBook pro) that did not have an Ethernet port. At first, he figured he did not need a wired connection but as it turned out, he could not get a good wireless signal despite his modem being directly below him on the ground floor. He already has a wired connection going to the same room so a solution for the mbp was the only one needed. Unfortunately, apple wants considerably more for their usb to Ethernet adapter. I picked one of these from the Richmond Aberdeen store. Plugged it into the mac and it recognized it immediately. Connection is relatively fast an sufficient - not much faster than a good wireless connection but definitely more stable and reliable. The only concern is that the it gets relatively warm after a few hours of use (both on the female plug end and the usb 3 end). No worries here, since it gets unplugged from the mbp anyway when he takes his laptop with him.I haven't really had a chance to test this on a pc but if it works for a mac then it would most definitely work with a standard pc.

other than heating up it works flawlessly as you can get it for good price while on sale. most of the device are plug and play but setup disk is included as well. good for network diag with laptop while some slim ones doesn't come with Ethernet port.

Worked great right out of the box, and haven't had any problem with it, but it does seem to get really hot. Hotter than the laptop I am using it on's AC adapter. I'm worried that it may not last as long as it should with that heat, but it was cheap and it works great.

Tested using iperf, this works at nearly gigabit speed on USB 3.0 on Mac. 934 Mbps, averaged over 3 tests. It works fine in USB 3.0 mode in Linux as well, just a little slower - 860 Mbps.My Windows laptop only has USB 2.0, but this still works well, albeit limited by USB 2.0 speeds. At 176 Mbps, it's less than half of the USB 2.0 theoretical limit of 480 Mbps, which is typical of USB 2.0 chipsets. Interestingly it's considerably faster in USB 2.0 in Linux, averaging 265 Mbps.It gets quite hot very quickly during heavy transfers, particularly in USB 3.0 mode. There's also only one LED which stays constant while connected and blinks during activity - it would be better if it changed colour for a 100 Mbit connection versus a gigabit connection like ports on a switch, but you will probably be using this with the switch in sight.A nice, fast USB network adapter that works in every OS.

Good product, driver is a pain to get online, had to use the cd and keep a copy for setup in the future. once it is working its a great product. I got it for $17 with free shipping so for that price i cant complain.

Quick start guide says if no optical drive then download driver from Linksys. Unfortunately Linksys has discontinued support for this product, and removed the driver from their website.Could borrow an external DVD to load driver, or try to find a driver somewhere else online, or just plug it in and see if Windows can make it work. But further research suggests this is a product to avoid, so will be returning it.
