Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote
Cons:takes a bit of time to set up everything. Must have the remote pointed at devices for about 5-10 seconds.
Pros:Easy to use, easy to set up Comment:
With all the devices I have in my living room and with older parents complaining that the numerous remotes were to complicated, I decided to get a logitech harmony as a universal remote to control everything. Setting up the remote was a breeze. I found settings for all of my devices and it worked flawlessly. One problem I have is that you have to have the remote pointed at your devices for about 5 seconds for everything to be set up correctly. Other than that, its great. My parents have complained less (although they do still complain..). Highly recommended. |

Cons:Price when it's not on sale deal
Pros:1 remote to control them all, all for 1 remote controlPowerful remoteEasy configurationControl up to 15 device Comment:
1 remote to control them all, all for 1 remote control. Awesome. No need to handle 150 remote to control your multimedia system. Just one. It's cool cause it's light up when you take it. This review was modfied by poster r 01-11-09 05:16 PM This review was modfied by poster @ 01-11-09 05:16 PM |

Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote
Cons:Slow browsing through TV's advance function buttons, Annoying switching between devices. Turning off and on could get messed up if someone else turned off one device manually.
Pros:Very smart device when comes to switching between devices. Has massive and constantly updating online database for tons of devices. Comment:
I was very excited when I first bought this device. It wasn't hard for me to get used to the remote. However, this is not a universal remote for anyone, especially for the elders. Some people that are having trouble with this remote would rather go with 2,3 remotes as oppose to a single one. Plus, everything has to be done through this remote, if you press the OFF button on the TV to turn the device off, the next time you try to use the remote, the TV will turn on when you try to turn it off (no, it can't adjust to other user interventions). |

Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote
Cons:A little finicky initial setup - key word is LITTLE.
Pros:Huge database - even with old stuffStrong IR - turns on all equipment even around a corner! Comment:
Took about 15 minutes to set up but now controls everything. Nice multiple function programming - ie: watch TV will turn on my receiver, projector, sat box with one button. was on sale for $69 - how can you lose! |

Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote
Cons:some buttons are a little on the small
Pros:controls all components with the touch of 1 button Comment:
The Harmony 550 fit my needs just right. In addition to having the features I needed, the remote has a look and style that goes with my living room. In other words, the 550 doesn't look like the obvious remote control gadget we've all become accustomed to seeing in our living rooms |

Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote
Cons:NONE
Pros:- Much simplified operation of multiple devices- Easy to use web-based configuration mechanism- Controls everything from my TV and computer to my air cleaner Comment:
This is my first Harmony. I was surprised by how easy it was to set everything up. Right now I have only one activity set up, though. With one button the Harmony turns on my Olevia TV and Panasonic receiver, set to the appropriate inputs and brings up my Media Center PC's my video screen with the volume controlling the receiver and the rest of the keys controlling the HTPC!! I've also set up this remote control to work with my old LaserDisc player, Mini-system, computer speakers, and even a Sharp Air Purifier! All took less than 10 minutes. All I can say is "wow!" |

Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote
Cons:Takes a while to set up, buttons lag
Pros:Works with every remote controlled device Comment:
Before going with Harmony remotes, I suffered from remote overload. I had 5 remotes in a single room. Now I just have 1 in that same room. My main problem with the Harmony is that some of the buttons noticably lag. For example, you press volume down and it doesn't respond immediately like the remote that came with the TV would. Also, you have to make sure to keep the remote pointing at all the systems during startup and shutdown for a few seconds as it takes a while for everything to start. You can tweak this in the settings but it takes a while. It also takes a while setting up the profiles (ie the "watch a movie" profile).Another minor annoyance is the account only allows one remote per account. I have two Harmony remotes, one for upstair and one for downstairs so I have to login as someone else to configure the other remote. |
I picked this up about a year ago from NCIX when it was on sale for 70 dollars. It does everything it is supposed to and I have it running all of my multimedia setup, TV, DVD Player, Sound System etc. No problems thus far.
