Logitech S-150 2.0 Digital USB Speaker
Cons:Not good at mid-high volume
Pros:Small SizeNo Power Cable Comment:
Bought 8 sets of these for work machines... for what they are used for, they are absolutely great. I love that the USB provides the power, so no long power cords to deal with, perfect for laptops on the go. They are really small... the picture doesnt quite show it, but they are smaller than my hand. For low-mid volume, they are just fine..nice and clear, but anything mid range and up starts to distort. Fully expected from $16 speakers, but had to mention it. |
These are simple to use, not requiring a wall transformer for power or the use of an analog audio cable. They do well as a quickly plugged in replacement for crappy laptop speakers. When plugged into both Windows 7 and Ubuntu machines, I had to go to the sound properties panel to select the USB speakers which appeared in the dialog when the unit was plugged in - otherwise the speakers are silent, which might confuse non technical users. One speaker has a power light which says "Digital" and three buttons. The left button decreases the volume, the central button mutes, and the right button increases the volume. For somewhat better sound for about the same price, consider the Logitech Z110 speakers. These don't have any speaker mounted volume controls, and require separate wires to a USB port for power and to an audio jack for the sound signal.
