Bought a set of these because of the price point and I wanted 5.1 sound. There are a lot of glowing reviews for these speakers and I can see why. When they worked, they sound quite good, aside from a few minor issues (crackling/popping when adjusting volume on occasion, the cheap feel of power button and volume control). The problem is, I ran through 2 sets in literally 2 days. Both just lost power after an hour or so of usage. Not very promising, honestly. As much as I wanted 5.1 sound I'm at the point where I think I'll have to downgrade. Other 5.1 sets are out of my current budget and I don't have much faith in getting another set. Would give this a lower rating, but it won't let me without an order ID. So, guess the reviews are inflated. |

I'm writing this review to let anyone whose considering buying this NOT to buy it if you are going to listen to any type of music on these as it's terrible for music. Spend the extra $40 and get the z623 instead. Had I known how bad these sound, I would not have bought them. I had the previous model x530 for many years now and it sounds WAY better than these z506. The subwoofer is almost twice as large on the x530 in terms of total area. The satellites on the z506 has the exact same 2" drivers as on the x530 but you only get 1 instead of the dual drivers on the x530. The tweeter looking thing is fake as there's nothing inside it so you only get that 1 little driver making all the high and mid sounds which seem very dry and separated and from the weak subwoofer. Where as the sounds from the x530 and x540 was warm and unified, the sounds from the z506 just suck. It sounds like $30 speakers not $80 speakers. I don't want to listen to music on these. This is just a cheaply made version of the x530 and x540. If you truly must have 5.1 for games and movies and on a tight budget then it's OK, otherwise get the Logitech z623 or bet yet Corsair SP2500. |

These died for seemingly no reason after less than a week of very light use. I have not even turned them up past 30%. I was in the middle of playing x-com, when today all of the sudden there was a pop/slight crackle and the sound cut out. My sound card, computer, speaker cables or sound drivers are not to blame. Turning the speakers all the way up results in just barely being able to hear something out of one or two satellites, nothing I tried fixed it. I am going to return it immediately, and get something else. If they have nothing else I will give these one more chance, and if they break again will be asking for a refund. They were nice for the 6 days that they worked. I rated as three stars, as I don't have an order ID because I didn't purchase them from NCIX. These definitely deserve a 1 star though. |

I had my eye on a 5.1 speaker system and price matched this for $80. Though the surround sound isn't all that great, it's better than nothing.Having the centre speaker attachable on the top of my 27" monitor clears up much needed desk space.Many people had commented on the buzzing noise they experienced with this set of speakers but I am glad mine worked right out of the box. The only issue getting the 5.1 sound working was with the motherboard's audio drivers(some minor installation, reinstallation and tweaking of settings). I'm no expert when it comes to the quality of a subwoofer's bass, but this one's bass is decent enough for my needs.This set would have been perfect if the bass control was also on the volume control. However, the versatility of the centre speaker's positioning was more important in the long run. |

I purchased these to replace an extremely aged set of low-end Creative 2.1's. This speaker set was of very poor performance. The description says 75Watt RMS but actual sound output sounds more like 25Watt.The bass from these is nice at extremely low volumes but any sound level approaching mid-range the subwoofer distorts and cannot reproduce low frequencies even approaching 35Hz - let alone below 35Hz.The volume control made me quite irritated out of the box. Right from the first plugin, adjusting volume is irritating because there is a slight static when adjusting the volume.These speakers could not replace even an old Creative 2.1 set of $65 dollar speakers. I don't have time for RMA's and so I just put these on my kids Wii for extra sound.I would not recommend purchasing these if you are looking for bass and/or clarity of sound at even mid-range volume. |

Purchased on sale for $79 and can't argue with the price/performance ratio. Provides satisfying bass for movies & games in my living room.However, has an audible crackling noise at ½ volume with no inputs connected. Googling indicates this is a common problem and a game of roulette.Inferring it was due to RF interference I taped a sheet of aluminum foil around the subwoofer which has resoled the issue. |

Cons:A few things i do not like about the speak system. 1. The controller for the speaker system is hard wired and cannot be disconnected,a feature i now miss. Makes it difficult to setup and hide wires.2. The speaker wires are not long enough,3. Matrix mode is horrible, i recommend not even using it.

Pretty good for the price, i got these to replace my creative megaworks speaker system that was about 9 years old and finally gave out. Not as good as my Megaworks speaker system, but its close and for less than half the price for what i paid for the meagaworks system. Over all good sound quality, base is pretty good to. |

This is a great product overall, I purchased this product just for the sub woofer to add to my Bose Companion 2s and I ended up also using the satellite speakers as well as they are also very good quality speakers. The sub woofer are great,and the dedicated knob is also very handy in case I need to turn my bass down. However, the center speaker just doesn't sound up to par with the side speakers, I don't know if it is suppose to be like this for 5.1 systems, but it the sound quality is not quite up to par with the rest of the system as the sound from it sounds very muffled. |

Bass stopped working without reason after a year of low to moderate use (I would rather use my headset most of the time) and I am not the person to set the volume or bass level high.I recommend buying something slightly more expensive NOT MADE IN CHINA; from a country with actual quality standards and norms. It's also annoying to try to fix everything is glued and the resistors were all bent inside. This didn't worth my trouble.
