Very good sturdy aluminum situation, performs with my old IDE hard drives, and fantastic mounting for the actual drive inside of unit. Cheap. Picked up two simply because they were nice and affordable. Had a difficulty with a close fit sliding in on a single, and the other really had the leads of one particular of the capacitors reaching down from the board and coming into make contact with with metal situation. I decided to be secure rather than sorry and double checked the conductivity of the surface. Turns out that its not conductive but still, a bit close for comfort. Yet another factor about the leads on the capacitor, they truly prevented me from pushing on the back cap and closing up the unit. Had to use a bit of force to pop the back plastic lip and push up the board to finish the install. Very good for the price and would get once again if I needed to. As usually Newegg shipping was rapid.

price tag The external case is aluminum-there is absolutely nothing to preserve the board from shorting itself out inside the case. I fried a single of them doing this. I ordered two of them-one of them I created the error of not taping the board prior to I put it in. Within seconds it fried. placing it in the situation as you would typically do with an enclosure fried the enclosure board. The other a single I have operates fine soon after I taped the board up (so it wouldnt brief out). I wouldn't purchase an additional-manufactuing defect.

Flaky at very best. Only at times drops the harddrive connection to the personal computer. I bought this a year ago or so as a external backup drive. I have a brand new IDE Western Digital 250 GB Harddrive and this enclosure caused the drive to under no circumstances work correctly. Not as soon as did I get a effective backup. You get what you pay for, so if you want an external enclosure that functions, don't obtain this one particular.

Kudos for including screws and USB device cable. Power provide was fine. Logic board was dead on arrival. Assembly was about par for this kind of hardware.

Incredibly low-cost value, sturdy, it has lasted this long Masscool?! Additional like Massheat! This issue gets seriously, actually hot, not very fantastic dissipation and with no on/off switch, i have to make positive that i unplug it everytime i'm finished using it so it doesn't burn up. Ridiculous s-video like power cord doesn't even go in all of the way, do yourself a favor and generally acquire 1 of these with an ac adapter. Negative ground/video distortion: if this is plugged into a PS3 or some other video device, it causes snow and distortion lines on the Tv. That's fairly unacceptable in my book. If you just will need one thing to use in order to get some thing off of a harddrive from a bummed out Computer, than this will work just fine, but with so many better alternatives on newegg for just 5 or ten bucks more, you would be foolish to obtain this for any other purpose than what i stated above.

Low cost. Appears to perform. Screws to hold hard drive to platform on the inside are too brief/small and don't truly reach the difficult drive with sufficient threads to hold. The side screws are incredibly tight going in, provided screwdriver doesnt function effectively sufficient, and the inexpensive screws stripped really easily.

Anything fits, effortless install. XP recognizes enclosure, and then recognizes drive. Nevertheless, it says I need to format my HD, but then can't do it. Don't know why. Named tech help, they stated it may be a challenge with the IDE to USB interface. I am RMA'ing it now. Says my HD is in RAW file structure, but is absolutely NTFS.Oh properly, Newegg has fantastic service, will order an additional a single shortly.

Affordable aluminum not plastic, duralability somehow alright, Well not exactly machined ideal, but you get your income worth, don`t switchout HDD usually You can use it for your dvd burner as long as you don`t try to fit it in the enclosure :)

Well the factor is incredibly portable for starters but thats about all the like Im going to give this item. Only purchased this because I gave my mom a newer computer system, but we recycled the old one , it had a Seagate Baracuda IDE 20GB HDD , And she wanted her documents off of it and onto the new Pc. Never has assembling a tough drive case been this substantially of a discomfort. The directions had been not the challenge but its assembly routines are "tight fitting". Im not confident how long this was going to last. This case appears so cheaply created and flimsy to the max. When I mean tight fit, it actually is, you have to make sure the board is inserted into the slot inside the case the appropriate way, or the board will look all bent inside. Its transfer speeds are fairly slow, but then once again I consider its the drives technologies is extremely slow. Cords are also super brief. Not also thrilling. What can I expect for the price I paid? So far the casing accepts NTFS, So theres no issues. Its been powered on for 6 hours straight and its cool to the touch as well. I would not use this case to install programs such as games on it , but perhaps backup photos , or one thing else. But thats about it. I wouldnt purchase this casing once more. It seems like too much difficulty.

I genuinely like the Computer board sled that you mount the HDD to for this enclosure and the way that the HDD lights are mounted at the finish instead of jumpered wires. No fan. Drives get HOT. These are wonderful for just having on hand to toss a random / located HDD into for backups or data pulling. They're possibly not the nest bet for 24ǝ use due to the fact of how hot the drive and case get.

Uhm...... it demonstrates what takes place when pins get shorted? Everything is a con. RMA'd the initial 1, got the new a single. Put electrical tape over the connections on the board to maintain it from frying. It turns out, all along, it doesn't help NTFS. FAT16 or FAT32 only. This is only stated in the manual, as a final note. Isn't Masscool supposed to be American created? It's definitely Chinese, given the poor grammer in the manual. I'll by no means buy another Masscool product once again. Do. Not. Buy.

comes with a little screw driver! does not perform! I tested it when I got it and the drive was recognized and I was able to format it. The subsequent day when I went to use it I get some wierd behavior when connected to the system and the dreaded, "USB device malfunction". I tried it in a different machine with the smae result.

tiny footprint, easy to configure, works flawlessly as soon as setup. really tight fit... Power and in use indicator lights bend effortlessly and do not line up with front cover of case. This unit worked excellent, but that's largely thanks to other critiques. Had I not recalled seeing a evaluation that said this factor would not recognize a drive unless it was configured as a master, it would have been sent back. Make positive you set the Master jumper on your drive. Directions integrated state this will not work with NTFS, but I only run NTFS format and it works good.

basic enough, plug and play looks pretty ugly, cheap plastic ends clash with the aluminum case even though they're painted silver. Two tiny screws hold the pcb which holds the hd in the enclosure, not very confident about the sturdiness of this set up. Would not want to be too clumsy about this factor.

It did function for a while. It still works but it destroyed the challenging drive that was in it. The drive won't even format anymore. It does get truly HOT!!! If you only need something temporary go for it but don't strategy to use it for extremely lengthy.

Works well. Power cord is an annoying length. I have to maintain the black box part of the cord on my desk or else it hangs. No power switch. 200 GB maxtor inside and it functions fine.

It's compact, and was recognized by XP quickly. (In other words, it does what it's supposed to.) Comes w/screwdriver that works on both sizes involved in assembly. As a previous poster stated the screws holding the back plate on are extremely modest, not a major deal if you're just preparing on sticking a drive in and leaving it in for a even though. Nevertheless if you've got huge fingers (my husband) or less than excellent eyesight (me lol) I could see exactly where that could be an concern. The USB cable is great for mobility, but too short if you maintain your PC close to the floor, and you want the unit to sit, say, on the desk...not truly a con for me b/c I had a longer cord kicking around :)

Inexpensive, and it works! Non, nicely, absolutely nothing that i really should be complaining about seeing as how considerably i paid for the item. I had a couple of dead challenging drives from old computers that have considering that produced a residence in a landfill somewhere. But, out of curiosity sakes, i wanted to get the HD's running. Bought this, and got it within three days. Super rapidly shipping! Plugged in the initially HD, worked! Second, Worked, and that fad continued for all the rest of them. I have no complaints about this device, it was cheap, and it worked. I couldn't of asked for anything a lot more.

First of all it was quite straightforward to assemble. The design was quite intuitive and promoted effortless and fast installation. Windows XP recognized the disk from the start out and soon after a brief re-format (recommended by the instruction manual) the drive worked wonderful! I haven't had any difficulties with it. The only challenge I've discovered is that it doesn't have an on/off switch. To turn it off for the night or one thing you will need to unplug it. Also, the included USB cable is a small short. It runs a small warm, but nothing unusual; it's the exact same temperature as my Seagate external difficult drive I have appropriate next to it.Performance is adequate for my purposes (backing up movies and photos), about the same as you'd get from most USB external tough drives.
