I purchased this to test if an existing hard drive was working and to extract data when I suspected my computer died. It was really easy to use and worked well (kind of cheap plastic case, but acceptable given the low price).

Comment:
The unit I purchased fried itself within minutes of its first use. It powers up for about 2-3 seconds, then it shuts down and won't come back up. I thought it might have been the drive, so I exchanged it for an identical drive, and the enclosure did the same thing.

Used it to clone my old hard drive and is great for this purpose. No bells or whistles but very functional for the computer literate. Great if you want to use to for an extra hard drive back up. Gets a little hot after about an hour. Not sure how it would function if it wre on continuolusly

I tried to read the manual. It was obviously not proof-read by anyone who understands English. I installed my SATA drive in the enclosure. Assembly was simple. I turned on my laptop and plugged in the unit, and it went through the setup procedure, finding the new hardware, installing drivers, ready to work. But the 500 Gb SATA drive was not visible in My Computer. So I tried to hook the unit to my desktop. Again, the system saw the new hardware, installed drivers. Again, the drive was not visible in My Computer. On both systems, I looked for the hardware configuration and there were no warning flags. Drivers were installed and working properly. I got a return authorization and will be returning the unit today.

Comment:
My hard drive started acting up and naturally I got the sweats bad. I had done as much diagnosing as I could but couldn't determine whether the problem was the hard drive or the enclosure. Found this puppy at a super cheap price and bought it to test it out. Turns out it WAS the enclosure and this one works better anyway, it's super thin, fast and quiet, you can't even tell the hard drive is running. Highly recommend it! I have only had it for a month though.

Got it to give my nice a 500gig hard drive full of music.. it'll last untill I give her a new one that'll hold it internally.. Not too hot, came with software and whatnot that I just threw out.. already had a drive formatted and whatnot and it works fine... so far.. but only been in use for less than a month but she is listening to music every free moment she has.. Would be better if it was usb 2.0 or had a fan.. gets hot.. but its on top of a desk by a fan so its good for now..
