MSI G41M-P28 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Cons:limited overclock potential - no voltage adjustment, socket 775 is a 2-3 generation old socket.
Pros:inexpensive. good support for c2d processors. compatibility |
This is to add to the web knowledgebase.Had an HP Pavillion a6403w - a 3 year old machine with an E2160 processor, 2gb ddr2 ram, and 500 gb hard drive. The system eventually died with no video but the cpu fan powered up. REALLY debating on whether to even spend the money to repair the system.Swapped out for this motherboard without a problem. Upgraded to 4gb ddr3 ram (not compatible with ddr2) since ddr3 is so cheap these days - $20 extra basically. So, for $80 managed to get the system up and running. It fit the HP pavillion case without problem.Note, that the HP pavillion Power supply only had a 20 pin atx motherboard power cord. This motherboard has a 24 pin atx power socket. The 20 pin cord was more than adequate to power up the motherboard/cpu.So... basically, a good/cheap upgrade and repair for $81 after tax (includes the ram upgrade). One last thing, tried to overclock it to 300 fsb and it froze up. don't know if it's the cooling for my cpu or the lack of voltage controls/ram issues. In the end, had to do a cmos jumper reset to get the system running again. Since this MB was for a family member that is not tech savvy, decided not to do any overclocking on it in the end.
